Sensei Anthony C. "Tony" Silva has developed his Karate and other Martial Arts skills for over 40 years. Sensei Silva started learning to box at the early age of 7. By 1969 Sensei Silva received his first Black Belt in Kyokushin Karate under Sensei Mas Oyama in the Philipppines.
In 1971 Sensei Tony switched to Shotokan Karate after moving to the city of Manila. While in Manila Sensei Tony Silva also studied Arnis with Guru Ernie Presas, eventually becoming a guru himself. By 1972 Sensei Silva instructed Karate Techniques at the Makinkina police training center.
By 197 Sensei Tony joined the Japan Karate Association (JKA) under Sensei Kunio Sasaki, restarting as a White Belt practicing Shotokan Karate with JKA precepts and eventually passing his Shodan Black Belt by 1980.
Still practicing JKA regulated Shotokan Karate, Sensei Tony migrated to the United States to study at Puget Sound in Washington state and soon thereafter joined the American Amateur Karate Federation (AAKF) and the International Traditional Karate Federation (ITKF) in Los Angeles, placing himself under tutelage Guam to instruct the Guam Police Department in Karate and Arnis Techniques as well as joining the JKA Shotokan Karate school in Santa Monica under Sensei James Fields.
In 1984 Sensei Tony established the Antonio Conoy Shotokan school of Long Beach and soon after in 1986, Sensei Sammy Agra, Doc Sam as most of his friends call him, who is a long time JKA Shotokan practitioner for over Thirty years, met and together with Sensei Tony to establish the JKA Shotokan profession. He currently is a Physician Specialist for Los Angeles County Health Services. Sensei Sam Agra is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) and a fellow member of the American Board of Family Medicine Physician (AAFP). With Sensei Sam's busy schedule, he still manages to practice and teach the art of Shotokan Karate. Aside from Karate Sensei Sam also enjoys another favorite sport of Golf. Sensei Sam currently has his 2nd degree Black Belt.
By the millennium, Sensei Tony Passed JKA Sandan.
In 2001 Sensei Tony and Sensei Sammy Agra started the JKA Shotokan Karate school of Long Beach and this is where we are still practicing and improving ourselves today.
