France de Griessen

France de Griessen a sorti en 2005, sous le nom de Teen Machine, en collaboration avec Michaël Gadrat, un premier album « Billy », enregistré avec Stéphane Buriez. Ce personnage mythique et tragique de l’Ouest américain s’y incarne alors dans les textes et les musiques de cette auteur-compositeur-interprète qui parvient à créer par ses intonations vocales un monde singulier fait de douceur et de violence, d’enfance fragile et forte, de passion, de vie et de mort. Avec ce premier album, elle est lauréate « Arts de la scène » de la Fondation Belge de la Vocation, de Défi-jeune, des showcases Music Manager Forum et de deux bourses de la SACEM. L'album est "Repéré par la Fnac-Autoproduits", fait l'objet de deux passages télévisés dans l'émission "Studio 5", et entre en rotation sur diverses radios indépendantes en France (parmi les plus fortes rotations sur Radio Néo pendant deux mois), au Canada et aux Etats-Unis.En collaboration avec Shanka (No One Is Innocent, Destruction Inc.), elle réalise un album solo mêlant influences grunge, punk, country et s’inspirant librement du conte d’Andersen « Les chaussons rouges ».France de Griessen était Billy. Elle est aussi cette "Ballerina" la poupée-danseuse aux pieds enrubannés de soie rouge. Ce sont des masques cachant et révélant à la fois, le temps d’une chanson, un peu de ses rêves, de ses passions, de ses violences, de ses souffrances, de ses émerveillements. Comme on tente d’attraper des lucioles dans la nuit d’été, elle raconte son mystère, l’intime impalpable, au creux d' une fleur d’hiver ou dans le rouge cruel de souliers de danse et de mort.L’imaginaire de France s’est nourri, sans a priori, depuis son plus jeune âge, de ce que l’aventure de sa vie lui a fait découvrir : Marilyn Monroe et sa fragilité glamour si touchante, Marie Laforêt, Courtney Love et Hole, L7, Bette Davis ou la rebelle Calamity Jane qui aurait pu faire sienne la devise de Sarah Bernhardt : « Quand même ! » tant elle a avancé dans la vie sans crainte des risques. Très jeune, France de Griessen a découvert la culture punk, son goût du « Do it yourself » et son refus des conventions et des stéréotypes.Sa vie à New York (American Musical and Dramatic Academy, NY) et au Nouveau-Mexique lui à donné le gôut de la musique country et des ballades folk qui "racontent et partagent des histoires" ( Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen, Calvin Russell, Michelle Shocked...)France de Griessen crée un univers au charme particulier. Sa poésie génère son propre monde, à la manière de celui d’Alice au pays des merveilles, qui surprend, effraie, apaise, fait rêver et qui lui ressemble. C’est elle, femme et enfant, aux visages multiples, cruelle et tendre, gracieuse et sexy, sirène ou fée, et personne d’autre. Comme le perce-neige, elle « pousse seule, là où on ne l’attend pas ».France est également comédienne, elle à incarné notamment dans le spectacle d'Edouard Baer "La Folle et Véritable Vie de Luigi Prizzoti" les fantasmes de Luigi (E.Baer ). France de Griessen takes her influences from all parts of the world and cultures, for she has lived in Brussels, Paris, New-York, Albuquerque and New-Mexico. She even sings in both French and English. Her music is strong combination of punk, rock, grunge and country magic and creates an original mix of different cultures and sounds.However, France de Griessen didn’t start off as musician/ songwriter but as founder of a alternative theatre company, which featured drama, video, music and performance art. But France wanted more music in her life, and that’s where the sparkles began. France met composer and musician Michaël Gadrat, and together they made an album called ‘Billy’ under the band name ‘Teen Machine’. the album was based on the story of American outlaw Billy the Kid. ;I loved that story because it’s really about a man’s quest for freedom and finding one’s identity and place in a harsh world. The fact that he was a boy and that I’m a girl did not matter to me at all, I feel powerful stories can be told regardless of gender. So I performed as a female version of Billy.’As a musician France loves the challenge of creating new melodies and collaborating with other artists. Currently she’s in the recording studio finishing off the new album (set to be finished this December) which she has worked with ‘No One is Innocent’ and ‘Destruction Incorporated’ singer and guitarist Shanka.This is what France has to say for herself:‘I love the craftsmanship of making music, and each of its aspects is equally important to me†: writing good lyrics, something that conveys a message or an emotions in itself, the melody and arrangements, and the aesthetics of the artist or band.. I want to create an ‘,,uvre d’art totale‘.I think that fundamentals are the building blocks of fun and freedom. Why? Because making music requires interacting with other musicians, and the better they are, the most prepared each one is when we start rehearsing together, the less time we have to spend on the technique and the more we can work on the emotional, spiritual aspect of the music, which is something ultimate to experience as an artist.When working with other musicians, the aim is to create something that goes further than a simple addition of talents. And I have to say that I’m blessed to work with some of the most amazing French musicians. Working with musicians of such a high level, forces you to give the best of yourself at all times, it’s a real challenge, and god knows that if there is something that I love, it’s challenge. I’m a ‘fuckin’do it’ kinda girl. Without challenge, I think an artist can’t survive. At least, I know I can’t.’
