About Me
Well it starts out like every band in the history of concious beings. An idea that overrode all critical outside opinion, idea that compressed screams, melody, power chords to open chords basically putting my head in your head.
In late high school (Beerwah High Queensland) i performed Nirvana songs with the metal/rock band ASURA DEVA, i lived in the jam room so i had no choice.
But time rolls on stuff happens people die, and the band split up.
So in 2001 in a drunken clowd of miss-judgement I moved to Newcastle. Noticing the small over all area of the place and large amount of musos cramed in, I thought to start a rock band and stain Newcastle with my thoughts.
A music course seemed the right avenue to seek band members
and avoid work for the dole. And so the unholy mission of forming a rock band had begun.
Casual band mambers came and went as the a couple of years went by, all the while stock piling riffs and songs, but there was no luck in keeping members around long enough to achieve anything.
But if you believe and keep at it someone will present themselves, And they did, a drummer who was keen, then a bassist, so naturally we jammed.
My riffs became songs which is a strange feeling but we needed a name, I wanted LABCHiMP but the guys didnt like it so being a democracy we voted.
Some names that were thrown around were
BIN MAGGOT, SPEW, SPOOKY KNEE, PUKE GUTS, CUNT PUSS,
WIERD SMILE, EXIST, SPUN MONKEY, MENTAL PACIENT, BLUE MEANIE, H@, SeANCES, SIRIUS B, QABALAH
just to name a few
But we voted on QABALAH. So with a name a set list of songs we were ready to taint Newcastles uncirspecting public.
But yet unforseen circomstances (i wont mention what) bites you in the arse and the drummer left, unvoluntarily.
Thanks to an old mate he stepped in as the drummer as we had gigs booked, and I wasnt prepared to cancel them for anything.
And so under QABALAH we performed a series of shows, which was a great learning curve, well for me anyway.
But yet again circumstance steps in and the guys started their own projects and back to square one I went. And QABALAH faded like the posters spralled all over Newcastle.
So i went back to solo performances and busking while I searched for new members and wrote new and better songs.
Walking home one day I heard drums so I left my number on his door, saying "i know you can play" this is my number.
After a brief intro we jammed and yet again a bassist strolled by who was keen to join, so we kept him.... naturally.
I finally got to call the band LABCHiMP and after a year of continious live performances broard casts on ABC radio Newcastle and Local Tin Radio, I've achieved what I've tried to accomplish for so long now, new songs are being written every week and things seem right, but a long and unpredictable road awaits.
