Are you now, or have you ever been...?

About Me

I am a firm believer in the maxim, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger." After pushing my limits, I feel happy, relaxed, fulfilled, neeto and peachy-keen.
I love to swim; but, haven't done it in a while. I'll have to get back to that sometime. There's a great place on the coast up north that I used to frequent on my motorcycle in summers past. Not a lot of people go there. The water is clean and warm, and dolphins and seals come in pretty close to shore. It's really very nice.
I like to read quite a bit. Over the past several years, I've done extensive research in the area of theology. My interest in this has led me to be able to defend myself and others against missionary activity; particularly against those who use coercion, deception and threats of eternal damnation as a ruse to convert others. The predatory style of this form of evangelism is exceptionally effective against the weak and vulnerable.
One of the fundamental differences between an evangelist and myself concerns the belief of what happens after one dies. Otherwise, at present, they eat, drink, crap, laugh, cry, work, study, watch TV, etc., just like me. That which can be proven beyond the shadow of any doubt lies within our discernable reality. That which is not manifestly verifiable is simply a matter of conjecture and should not be forced down anyone's throat through intimidation of everlasting doom.
In the end, I would rather live in a world with moral individuals of no discernable system of belief, than to have to contend with hypocrites who do not practice what they preach; and, that goes for anyone: Christian, Athieist, Muslim, Jew, Buddhist, etc.
And so, "what" am I? As long as I am a good and moral person, what does it matter? There are those who would ask me what my definition of "good" is. To them, I say: Morality and decency predate the great religions of recorded history. Were it not so, we as a race could not have survived to have initiated them.
On a lighter note, every weekend, I enjoy spending time with family; in particular, my two wonderful nieces who have me running around like a lunatic, consantly inventing new games with which to entertain them. Playing with the girls keeps me youthful and creative. I also love watching them learn and grow. They are both highly intelligent, and I am very proud of them. My younger niece was all of two years when she used to dial the phone (11 digits committed to memory!) all by herself, just to sing to me and have me make her laugh. Her mother initially thought she was talking to an imaginary friend, but found out quite a bit later that she had actually been talking to me.
My other older niece is a burgeoning gymnast who recently won a medal at her school. This Christmas, she personally donated a Hefty bag's worth of clothes and toys to her little cousin, who could certainly use them. Hopefully, someday I too will have children as intelligent and compassionate as they are. If it doesn't happen, well, ...So what? In the long run, I will have had the joy of spending quality time with my little nieces.
I used to compose a great deal of music on my old classical six-string. After a long hiatus, I'm just getting back into it again. Soon enough I'll be working things out on Garageband. I have song ideas going back more than twenty years that I'm eager to have see the light of day.
Hard to define my writing style. It's highly melodic. One of these days I'll get around to putting some songs up on the site for you all to hear, then you can judge for yourselves as to who you think my creative influences are.

Heroes:

There's been an emergency vote this week due to the sudden and untimely death of Foster Brooks several years ago. As he is not able to adequately fulfill the duties of "Hero" for the remainder of the week, he will be replaced by Howard McNear, who died more than three decades ago. No comment currently from Mr. McNear, as he is dead. Family member's attempts to revive his dessicated remains using CPR have, thus far, yielded no positive results. For more details on the efforts to revive the thirty-eight year-old corpse of "Floyd the Barber," please stay tuned.
Foster Brooks has already been given an honorary crown and scepter which will be held in trust for him in an underground bunker located in an undisclosed location somewhere in the vicinity of the Dakota Territorial Museum in Yankton, South Dakota until he rises from the dead to reclaim them.
God bless you, Foster Brooks. Many happy returns (...though, even one would suffice!)
This week's hero: Jack Gilford
Last week's hero: Howard McNear
Next week's hero will be either Tom Poston, Anthony Zerbe or Albert Salmi.
Be sure to cast your ballots now!
Past Honorees: Howard McNear, Foster Brooks, Terry-Thomas, Louis Nye, Lou Frizzell.
