Stymie & the Pimp Jones Luv Orchestra

It's A Big Apple Booty Affair !!!!

About Me

What Up Peeps !!!!!!Me llamo es Sean "Stymie" Sharp - a.k.a known in the Bay Area as Stymie. My band is the Pimp Jones Luv Orchestra. We've been playing in the San Francisco Bay Area for about 11 years and aren't too well known outside of our fishbowl. A few of my yupster friends brought "MYSPACE" to my attention and suggested that I utilize this tool to spread the unofficial, melodic, chaotic, ying & yang word of Stymie & The PJLO to the masses.Stymie & the PJLO's instrumentation and presentation recalls classic funk groups like Funkadelic and Sly and The Family Stone, yet the music is 100% original, blending all the musical influences, modern cultural craziness, and cartoon humor that affect our lives.
By eschewing cover songs to concentrate on crafting soulful, socially conscious originals, Stymie and his behemoth band have injected new life into the flailing San Francisco music scene and are proud to announce the release of The Secret Hits of the Black & Blue Parade.
Besides opening for funk legends Earth, Wind, and Fire at Californias Shoreline Amphitheater and Concord Pavilion, Stymie & the PJLO have paid dues at such venerable San Francisco clubs as Slims, Bimbos, the Elbo Room, the Bottom of the Hill, Tongue and Groove, and the Paradise Lounge.
The groups sound incorporates elements of rock, jazz, hip-hop, pop, reggae, Latin, and gospel, while maintaining a soulful funkiness and nastiness that throws audiences into a frenzy.
At one show, P-Funk All-stars guitarist John Payne was inspired to leap on stage and jam with the band on "Fan Club," a bouncy mixture of James Brown grooves, whimsical horn vamps, and hot swing breaks. The song was described by All Music Guides John Bush as "the most entertaining" on that album.
Billy Preston was impressed, too. When Stymie & the PJLO was hired to play a musical tribute to the funk icon, Preston was moved to join them on stage, later saying, "I dig you guys. You remind me of early Sly & the Family Stone."

STYMIE SPACEY FUNK !

Influences: At Shows, I always get approached by fans of the band who say they hear a lot of Frank Zappa in our music and I usually respond, "Oh snap that's cool".But, If you really listen, you'll hear the influences of Carl Sterling, Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. That's the God Honest Truth !!! I personally have found inspiration from a myriad of sources - Desmond Decker (may he rest in peace), Elo, Frank Zappa, Joni Mitchell, Mavis Staples, George Clinton's Parliament Funkadelic, Eddie Hazel, Erykah Badu, Prince, Fishbone, of course Red Foxx, Richard Prior, Dave Chappelle, etc..But I have also been inspired by the films of Robert Crumb, Terri Zwigoff , "Crumb", Daniel Claves and Paul Thomas. Cartoons back in the 40's were so imaginative both musically and visually. Artist back in the day went all out. They didn't have computers or yuppie skills to fall back on - No safety net ! I like to think when I perform it's without a net. Either I do it or I go SPLAT !!!!!
Sounds Like: Sly, Parliament Funkadelic, Fishbone....
Type of Label: None
