I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

..

I'm a young, writer/producer in Los Angeles and I write everything from sitcoms and sketch, to drama and screenplays. I currently work at FBC and I am also working on several television and film projects. Isn't that what they all say?! ...However, in my case, it's true! I've written projects for companies like Universal Music Group and BrandhouseTV, a joint venture with Chris Christmas and Tommy Mottola. I've also written projects for such talent as comedian, Godfrey, R&B singer, "RL" from the group Next, as well as being a produced writer on Fox's "MadTv." I was persuaded my a friend to join Myspace as a networking vehicle.I was born and raised in Illinois on Chicago’s South Side, Chi-Town! Sorry, I couldn't resist! It wasn't until I transferred to the University of Illinois at Chicago, as well as attended Columbia College in Chicago, an arts college, that I began working at one of Chicago’s full-service post-production facilities, Szabo Tohtz and Skyview. Soon thereafter, I acquired a position assisting the President of Artistic Communications Center, a company which developed and produced media content and television programming for companies such as NBC, Wal-Mart, and General Electric. I was able to learn hands-on about script development, pre-production, production, and was able to utilize my knowledge of post-production, wearing many hats throughout my employment there. However, the productions in Chicago were on a much smaller scale than Los Angeles and I knew it, so I set my sights on Hollywood. While visiting family in Los Angeles just before the Thanksgiving holiday one year, I attended a taping of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” where I met a writer. After noticing some continuity issues during the rehearsals, I asked him about them. Impressed with my observations, we began talking and that conversation ended with him hiring me as his assistant. I began to learn about the world of television first-hand, including story development, script writing and network run-thrus...

I soon became a writers’ assistant and script coordinator on various TV shows, including Fox's "Martin", UPN's "In The House," and "The Martin Short Show", but my former boss from Fresh Prince became my mentor, as I began writing scripts. Impressed with my writing ability, he assisted me in getting a literary agent to help pursue my writing career. I went on to become a WGA Trainee on MadTv, where I then became a produced writer on the show.I recently wrote and produced a pilot presentation to launch a new television network, BrandhouseTV, which is a joint venture between notable fashion designer, Chris Christmas and music mogul, Tommy Mottola. However, I've always had an eye for directing as well. I directed a scene from the screenplay of a fellow writer, who was participating in the WGA’s 2001 Black Writers Committee Screenplay Competition Reading, and was recently recommended by directors George Tillman (Men of Honor, Soul Food) and Maynard Virgil (One On One, Half & Half) for this year's ABC/DGA Directing Fellowship Program.Today I am also company manager to a start-up theater group called Windy City Players, whose mission is to produce theater in Los Angeles that is derived from a unique Chicago ethic, perspective and passion. We've recently concluded our first production of Hurt McDermott's "The Golden Watch Chain," which LA Weekly raved: "it's a "tornado-powered farce," with a "parade of clockwork entrances, exits and yelps, which the energetic ensemble devours like candy."I also have several projects in development, including a one-hour drama, two screenplays, and was just contracted to write for a cable reality-series. I am currently working on a project called “Le Monde Creole: Reclaiming My Creole Heritage,” a documentary based on my rich, ethnic background, and my journey to reclaim a part of my heritage that I've often had to deny. A project that I produced, directed and shot myself. I am also writing my very first stage play, entitled: "The Grass Is Always Just... Grass," an intimate look at two friends, who are in completely different stages of their romantic relationships, as they struggle with their angst that lies therein.
