BLACK VIRGIN ~OFFICIAL HELLSPACE~!!

About Me

~B|ack Virgin~ a three piece thrash metal/punk trio from NYC consisted of founder and lead guitarist and vocals, Kenny Lienhardt, original bassist Jimmy Strain and Cathy Burke on drums and percussion. The songs and lyrics consisted and reflected political, social and personal issues that fueled the creativity for the rebellious/anthem-like moshing melodies they spewed out :)..Formed around 1979, BV released their first early demo which consisted of two songs "Panick Stricken" and "Burn in Fire" then followed up with a second demo named "Feel the Steel". That demo consisted of two songs "Feel the Steel" and "44 Killer. Soon after their first bassist, Jimmy Strain left the trio, bassist Joe Cerna joined in early 1983 and 6 months later after a grueling rehearsal schedule they were off to Germany to record their first album Most likely to Exceed which was released in Europe only, under the label Bellaphon Records, following up the next 3-4 years with tours to Cologne, Frankfurt, Mainburg, Hamburg, Berlin, Iserlohn and Belgium just to name a few. Cheers and Skol, to all the fellow european headbangers, who let us play, drink, sleep and do all those other disgusting things we did while we were there, we love ya and had a blast!!..BV also released a couple of later demo's called Sledgehammer Justice Engineered by Steve Rosenthal from The Magic Shop studios in 1990 and Aural Sects For The Blind , recorded at Stellar Media NYC in 1992. Rehearsing at the famed "Music Building" on 8th ave. at 38th street on the 5th floor. That was their home for about 8-10 yrs. If anyone remembers, give us a shout out! After Joe's departure in 93', Sean Vasquez who played for a short while and Rob Graham formerly of Primal Scream took up the bass section from there on out. The band spread terror and fear, and had lots of fun and mayhem playing such clubs around the 5 boroughs, like Lamours in Brooklyn NY, The 308 Bar, Trax NYC, Sanctuary's, The Spiral, Lizmar Lounge, The Underground and other sleazy spots around the lower eastside and the village area...Since around 2001, the band has broken up to persue life/love and other musical projects, tho this "myspace shrine" is all that is left along with their music and spirit. Fortunately Kenny is still writing and currently working with a drummer for some new material, for the future:) God bless ya man!!....So many shows, so much partying and countless good times, If they could do it all over again, they would in a heartbeat!!...Black Virgin enjoyed rocking and thrashing every show with every band they had the honor of sharing the same stage with...Cheers to you all, hope your all doing well. They also showed much support and respect to most underground and unsigned bands from around the world...Nobody else will support us but us and our fans!...."So all you greedy fucking major labels that rip-off musicians who work their asses off, can go crawl in the darkest fecal infested hole and go fuck yourselves!"..We love this business for us not them....Rock on' Be Strong ppl...!Equipment used: Gibson Flying V Guitars, Fender Precision and Jazz Basses, Marshall, Hartke, SWR, Ampeg, Traynor Cabinets and Heads. Ludwig Kit, and Zildjian Cymbols and lots of attitude! You can find Kenny working laborously at the Bowery Ballroom he is one of the head soundmen there, stop in and say hello if you can catch him! Another interesting link about the band can be found here and the Corroseum's interview with our onetime producer, Ingo Nowotny about our LP. The name Black Virgin was inspired by the following false gospel of the stars, Cult of the Black Virgin and we don't worship satan or sacrafice any cute furry creatures. We just liked the concept :)
