I feel I am an interesting person if only for the fact I'm still alive to tell you this. I am a hard living, hard partying old school rock and roller. I have been playing bass guitar since I was in seventh grade. (Professionally for over 20 years.) My history begins at McKinley jhs in Brooklyn NY. My band teacher, Mr Stewart Rubin,(A lovely man who taught me to love music because he made it fun. Hard work, but fun.)gave me a tuba because I was the only kid big enough to hold it. I fell in love with the low end and all bass instruments. I was tired of having to cary a coffin sized tuba case to school every day, so I went to a store called GUITAR CITY on FtHamilton pkwy. I bought a 50 dollar CAMEO bass guitar and learned "My Sharona". After that it was all over. I havn't stopped playing since.
Some friends and I started a little rock band called "Emanon" Not very original I know, but we were only about 12. We started hanging around with older guys in rock bands (And going to bars, mind you we were not even in high school yet. LOL)
The new music scene in brooklyn was changing from what is now called "classic rock" to the MTV oriented garbage of the mid 80's.
We didn't care. We wanted to grow our hair and play as loud and as fast as possible.
I was a junior in HS when I joined a post punk/pre metal group called "BLACK VIRGIN". This is where I met Keith Alexander (Died in a Bicycle accident July 11 2005. I miss you man.) while he was still in CARNIVORE (see TYPE O NEG). Keith and I, with the help of Steve Alliano on drums started PRIMAL SCREAM (The original one, not the dudes from Scotland) We cut a record in 1986 called "VOLUME ONE". We played a ton of gigs (At L'amour in Brooklyn, CBGB's, West Hartford Agora Ball room (to name a few) and met really cool bands, the likes of METALLICA, The RAMONES, MEGADETH, SLAYER, MAN O WAR, ARMOURED SAINT, KING DIAMOND, OVERKILL, MOTORHEAD(Lemmy IS GOD) just to drop some names. Primal went on for about a year after I left the band to join VON HELSING.
At the ripe old age of 22 I was told metal was dead (thanks to nirvana) and my carrear in thrash metal was over. Having no place to go I did a stint under the uncle in the US ARMY'S 10 mountain division. This is also when I met my first wife. Needless to say it was a bad story. I never have had very much luck with the ladies as far as long term relationships go.
As luck would have it my old friend Rich from SORCERER SOUND (a studio in soho where we worked during the end of high school) called to see how I was doing. We started to jam and I got back into playing again. We worked in his studios in Vermont for about ten years, never releaseing a cd, but we did make some great recordings. Who knows, maybe we will release them some day.
Which brings us to now. I am still doing session work and I am in, at last count, 5 full time bands. My newest loudest group is called the VALLEY. I'll throw a link up here as soon as I figure out how.(LOL) The VALLEY is made up of a bunch of guys who were, in their respective scenes, very well respected players. We do a kind of Dadaesque/punk/new wave sound.
I also play in a great little Death metal band called THE ART AND SCIENCE OF WAR. My newest project Is a studio band called THE FAKE. Me and my best bud Lily are working on the sound track to her movie The FLOWERMOUNDS. That, and I'm still gigging with my long time friend Spiros SOUKIS. Expect to hear more from all, in the form of cd's and more great over the top live preformances.
Aside from music I keep myself occupied with my son who is 8 going on 27. I live in this boring little town so it's not very exciteing. I like to spice things up by doing and saying the outrageous. Hey maybe you will all see me on tv or in the post office one day!
