Clarence started playing the piano at the age of 4. Since then, he has slowly nurtured his passion for music and has since took part in numerous piano competitions.
He was awarded the 3rd Prize in the National Piano & Violin Competition 2005(Intermediate Category), finished in the top six in the Intermediate Category of the Trinity College London Music Competition 2005 and was the winner of the Young Pianist Competition 2005, Senior Category. Clarence was also one of the five finalists in the Open Category of the ..Young Musician.. Piano Competition 2006 and was the 1st prize-winner of the Harmony Hour Piano Competition 2006, Classicalist category. Clarence was one of the performers at the Performers.. Festival 2006 held in Singapore and was awarded the Top Merit (Platinum) for his excellent performance. He has performed in Masterclasses held by National Piano & Violin Competition 2005 Judge, Friederike Richter, Albert Tiu, Assistant Professor of Piano at Yong Siew Toh Conservatory (NUS), Frank Wibaut, Regular Professor at the Mozarteum Summer Academy, Vanessa Latarche, Head of Keyboard at the Royal College of Music and Mikhail Solovei, Head of Piano at the Melba Conservatorium.
Clarence was one of the performers in the Childaid Charity Concert 2005, organized by Singapore Press Holdings (SPH). He was also invited to perform in another Charity Concert on 27th May 2006,organized by Thomsom Medical Centre (TMC) and Singapore Press Holdings (SPH). In July, Clarence was invited to attend the 27th Kirishima Music Festival by National Arts Council (NAC) and was subsequently sponsored by the Japanese Counterpart as their Scholar.
Besides playing the piano, Clarence was also the former Band Major of Canberra Secondary School Band, the Bronze Medallist of the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) 2005 and has conducted them in numerous performance. Besides conducting, Clarence also played the Tuba and Percussion during his 3 years with the Band & was also appointed the sectional Leader aside from being the Band Major.
At the age of 15, Clarence was admitted to the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory Of Music at the National University of Singapore (NUS) on Scholarship in March 2006. This makes him one of the younger students in the Conservatory. His Scholarship is currently being sponsored by National Arts Council (NAC). Clarence is currently studying with DR. Thomas Hecht, Head of Piano Studies at The Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music. His previously studied with Ms. Winnie Tay from Song Without Words Music Studio.
