About Me

I was a French and English teacher who ended up teaching English as a Second Language. Had to go on disability because of multiple health issues. Very strong interest in cultures and people all over the world. Loved my job and my students. I have been a Christian since I was nine years old; at that time I understood that Jesus died for me and I needed to accept that gift personally. I wish I could say that I have always been as faithful to him as He has been to me, but it isn't true. For several years, until my health prevented it, I worked with the youth group at my church and was quite active the music ministry (choir, solos, small group singing, helping teens with special singing), and I miss both. My roots are in Kentucky (I'm a hillbilly once removed), but I spent most of my life in Cincinnati. I love the beauty of nature. If money and health permitted, I would travel all over the U.S. and many other parts of the world. . . .

Even if you missed it, you can view the entire interview with Steven Curtis Chapman and family that was broadcast on Good Morning America on August 6, 2008. Even Will Franklin, the brother who accidentally hit her with the family vehicle, speaks in the interview. Profoundly moving, powerful, and delicately handled by the interviewer.

My Interests

..
. Reading, genealogy, music, church, health and nutrition, international things, other languages and cultures, nature, traveling, "researching" stuff that interests me .., talking with friends, tutoring and sharing stuff.

I'd like to meet:

Jesus Christ, first of all. God, who I expect to be with one day soon. On earth, though, I guess George and Laura Bush, Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter, many relatives that I haven't met yet, Billy and Franklin Graham, Mark Lowry, Bill and Gloria Gaither, Bill Gates, Shirley and Dr. James Dobson.

Music:

I have an eclectic taste in musical styles. A lot depends on what my mood is at the time. But I mainly listen to Contmporary Christian music. My favorites artists are not really new: Keith Green, Michael Card, Twila Paris, Rich Mullins, Wayne Watson. Also Mercy Me, Casting Crowns, Selah, Chris Rice, Caedmon's Call, Ceili Rain, Chris Tomlin, Michael W. Smith, Steven Curtis Chapman, Margaret Becker, Gaither Vocal Band, Clay Crosse, Christine Dente, Jars of Clay, Nicole C. Mullen, Fernando Ortega, and lots of others. I find that God really speaks to me through "inspired" music in a way that just words don't. So I am more interested in the lyrics of a song than in the sound, although my favorite music usually appeals to me in both lyrics and sound. I really love songs that are full of praise and worship, songs that exalt Jesus and God the Father. I like classical stuff like Bach, Mozart, Tchaikovski, Debussy. Still enjoy classic rock and other stuff from the 60's and 70's. .

Movies:

.
Usually I want "escape" when I watch a movie, so I like comedies and animated stuff most of the time. Also liked musicals a lot. Can't name a favorite; change my mind a lot. But the Lord of the Rings trilogy is WAY up there, with The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe close behind. Loved Lion King, Toy Story, Fantasia (Disney's, not American Idol), Monsters Inc., Pride and Prejudice, Spiderman, Shrek 1 and 2, Nemo, Princess Bride, Sense and Sensibility, most Batman, all Indiana Jones, Sound of Music, West Side Story, Oliver, My Fair Lady, Braveheart, Fiddler on the Roof, Funny Girl, The Wizard of Oz, Silent Movie (Mel Brooks), Snow White, Black Stallion, Tarzan, George of the Jungle, and Miracle on 34th St. Lots of others, but these are just what come to mind right now. .

Television:

I especially like Stargate SG-1 and Monk. Watch all the CSI, but like the Las Vegas show best. Also like NCIS, Criminal Minds, NUMB3ERS.

Books:

* * .. * Of course, the Bible. After that I love JRR Tolkien most of all. Also love C. S. Lewis, Frank Perretti, Josh MacDowall, Max Lucado. Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, Jane Austen, Emily Dickinson, Walt Whitman, John Grisham. I highly recommend Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren and Prayer of Jabez by Bruce Wilkinson. New finds are Never Ceese by Sue Dent, Flashpoint by Frank Creed and Light at the Edge of Darkness from Writer's Cafe Press (see blog).

*

Heroes:

Jesus, George Washington, Saint Paul, Joseph, Abraham Lincoln, Nate Saint, Billy Graham, Keith and Melody Green, my mother and father, Jim Elliot, Martin Luther, John Bunyan, Fanny Crosby, and Martin Luther King. * *
