AS HEARD IN AWARD WINNING FILM: "La Vita di Ines."Sergio Altamura’s solo acoustic guitar record “Blu,†was recorded at Imaginary Road Studios by Will Ackerman: eminent guitar player and founder of the historical Windham Hill Records.Composed by Sergio Altamura, “Blu†is a 12 track album, which exceeds preconceived contemporary limits of instrumental music for acoustic guitar; with percussion, loops, mechanical fans, intoxicating vocals and other guitars. This exploration of timbre and sound research was already present in the previous projects of the Ark Ensemble quartet. In this album Sergio Altamura performs on a 12-string guitar, a tenor and a baritone, along with the electronic loops, voice and percussions. Ackerman plays, an acoustic guitar in the track “Before The Sea†and a parlour guitar in “The Name Of The Rose;†which Ackerman also co-wrote. Noah Wilding lends his voice, and Ackerman his guitar in “Before The Sea.†*******************************Biography:
Sergio Altamura was born in Molfetta, a town in the province of Bari, Italy. He graduated from the University of Bologna’s Department of Music, with a thesis on music semiology. In 1985 he began his career in concerts with various rock groups. Since l993 he has dedicated his time to the study of acoustic guitar. In l995 he began a series of personal concerts which met with wide success in Italy. In l998 he began a new project with The Ark Ensemble in collaboration with the group’s percussionist Pino Basile.
As well as his work as a musician, Altamura also dedicates much of his time to the composition of music for theater, films and documentaries. He has taught since l994 in various cultural centers, and holds yearly seminars on contemporary acoustic guitar techniques.
Altamura has a number of discographic projects ----- some as soloist, some in a duet, others as part of a quartet, and also as an arranger. Standing out among his achievements is his latest CD produced by William Ackerman; recorded in July 2004 in the Imaginary Road Studios, Vermont U.S.A.
