This is my passion, my work, my drive and my calling. It's what I do.
I guess I was always meant to be a photographer. One of my first memories is sitting outside my house in Cherry Hill, NJ, when I was 3, watching my dad take pictures of monarch butterflies on purple aster flowers. He was so patient, so calm, waiting for just the right moment. Maybe this is in my blood.
I always seemed to have a camera in hand. I was a Yearbook Photographer in High School, worked events at FSU and sometimes would submit photos to the newspaper or various publications. I fell in love with history at FSU, which is why half of my education is in that subject. When I wasn’t reading about Vermeer or discussing the geometric implications of the Renaissance vs. the Baroque periods in relation to the works of Michelangelo (yes, I really had this conversation – may sound geeky, but it was fascinating), I was in the dark room. I lived there. I miss it.
I graduated, and floundered. I will be the first to admit it. I got married, and just stopped doing what I was passionate about. Bills had to be paid. I harbored dreams of going after my passion, but instead I went back to school for a “safer†job trajectory. It wasn’t until I was in a city I didn’t want to return to, in a marriage that didn’t appreciate me, and in a graduate program that didn’t inspire me that I suddenly realized I never should have put the camera, or my dreams, away. So I’m starting over. Scary? Absolutely. Empowering, Humbling, Liberating and Exciting? Absolutely.
I was lucky enough to meet a small group of brilliantly talented young men who quite literally saved me. It was because of them that the camera was put back into my hands and the passion back into my heart. They are the reason I remembered why I loved photography so much. They’re the boys, my boys, from Hydrosonic. Look. Listen. Love. Remember. You will be hearing so much more of them in the future. And hopefully I’ll be there to record every step of the way.
So thanks to them I suddenly find myself ridiculously passionate about concert photography. Anything a local band needs, I’m there.
This is what I love. It’s what I do. It’s who I am.
