KALIBANDULU

KALIBANDULU was born in september 1999, when the crew performed for the first time in Saronno, opening the show for the band REGGAE NATIONAL TICKETS, while the passion for the whole jamaican music beated yet in TONI’s heart (aka REBEL T), founding member of the sound. Musically, BANDULU grew up in Milan under the influence of the djs that still are ruling the scene in the city, VITO WAR and REGGAE RADIO STATION, BASS FI MASS and BOMBOCLAAT in PERGOLA and most recently ITAL SOUND. An important crew, whose road met with the one of the sound, is MONZA INA DE YARD. Born in the same period and met after a contention about a record in a shop, the crew from Monza town pushed KALIBANDULU members REBEL T, DIMI and TINO MAN to move their first steps, helping them to play all around the region and offering the chance to perform in their own yard, the DADA PUB. It followed a series of combinations with other incoming crews like GANJA COOKIES, MAMA ALMA and KINGALOVA. The moment that really changed the game was when CRISTINA aka PRINCESS MELODY invited us to play in BOMBOCLAAT, the biggest dance hall in town, at the time; an unforgettable night where KALI BANDULU showed his unique selection, a journey through the entire reggae music. Since then, BANDULU’s name has been printed on many flyers, playing in the major dance hall in Milan. In july 2000, KALIBANDULU took a trip to the ROTOTOM SUNSPLASH, in Osoppo, placing the sound in the camping and giving the chance to everybody to perform at their mic, big and emerging artists too (ASIAN DUB FOUNDATION, MYSTIC REVELATION OF RASTAFARI, MONO and NIKITAMAN, RODDY). KILLAMANJARO, STONE LOVE,VOLCANO HI-FI, LP INTERNATIONAL, MIGHTY CROWN and DAVID RODIGAN are just some of the big sound systems who inspired us through the great number of mix tapes coming from the carribbean island. In 2001 an incoming dj (employed in JAHMEKYA music record shop where also REBEL T was working regularly) called BUSH DOC’ joined the crew, followed by the MC BOB FIRE and dj POWER D, both from Salento. The latest entry is the MC selecta MAJOR LARRY, enlisted due to his turntables skills. A huge dancehall happening was in MAR DE PLATA (Casalabate nel Leccese), where KALI BANDULU and RANKING LELE got a big forward by the massive coming from different places for the event. The following year KALI BANDULU opened a yard in Trepuzzi (Lecce) called BIG TING, a place where usually play most of the biggest sounds of our peninsula:HEAVY HAMMER, BASS FI MASS, ITAL SOUND,ONE LOVE HI POWA, MODDI and MAD KID, GRAMIGNA,VILLA ADA, I SCENCE, GENERAL PALMA, HEARTICAL from Paris. In 2005 BOB FIRE went back to Salento and made KALI BANDULU one of the most appreciated sound in the area, collaborating with FULL SQUAD, BLEIZONE, BOOMdaBASH and DJ WAR and keeping a daily radio program called UP TO DI TIME. Last but not list coming in the family are two selekta MAD MIKE and MOIZ strictly from Salento!! From 1999 to nowdays, KALI BANDULU performed in many italian and foreign cities: RIMINI, ROMA, LECCE, SIRACUSA, PERUGIA, PESCARA, TORINO, CHIASSO, TROPEA where they met a big number of sounds and crews.Personally, I’ll be always thankful to those who inspired and encouraged me since the beginning, to those who taught me to love this music and helped me to express it my own way.
