My name is Jolie and I'm a Singer, Songwriter, Guitarist & Producer from New York City, who also works in Nashville.
The songs I write are uplifting, funny and romantic, in a Rock/ Pop/ Folk/ Jazzy /Country style.
I started writing songs at the the age of 2 or 3, around the same time I started talking! I must have been a songwriter in my past life, as one of my earliest memories is climbing on the windowsill and singing my songs out the window, in the hope that someone would hear me and discover me!
(Shades of myspace!) I also remember feeling quite frustrated, that I didn't have a song in the charts!
Neither of my parents were musicians, but we did have friends and neighbors, who were hit songwriters or who were in the entertainment world. My Mom had been a very sucessful model and also had small speaking parts, in some memorable Hollywood movies. She was quite a character! Mother came from Baltimore, but always claimed she was from Virginia! My Dad was born in South Africa, grew up in Brooklyn but raised a family and lived for many years in Texas and Oklahoma, finally returning to LI & NYC.
I spent my earliest years in Manhattan, then moved to Europe with my Mom, where we lived in Rome, Monaco, Mallorca & Ibiza, until I left for London to continue the modeling career I had begun in Barcelona. During my stay in England,I got to meet some cute British Rock Stars. LOL!
Eventually I returned to New York, where I studied rhythm, improvisation and group playing with Karl Berger at his Creative Music Studio. Shortly after, I began playing my original tunes at venues in Woodstock and Manhattan.
I play rhythm & lead guitar and percussion.
My vocals are powerful and sensual.
I'm also a good dancer, though as I've mostly performed as a trio or solo, I haven't had much chance to show that off!
I've played my original tunes in the past, at these and other famous New York City showcase clubs: Max's, Great Gildersleeves, Trax, the Banana Stand, Cartune Alley, RT Firely, Eric's, the Spiral, the Dark Star Lounge (Triad), 22 Below, the Baggot Inn, the C-note, Sidewalk, Kenney's, C.B.G.B's. In Upstate New York: I appeared in New Rochelle at Bottoms Up, at the Ulster County Fair and I've opened for Orleans, at the Chance, in Poughkeepsie. Also I've played at various Fundraisers such as: the Concert for the NYC friends of the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, at the Community Church of New York.
I've performed live and had my songs "The Minute" & "The Devil" played on Pacifica radio station WBAI in New York City and WBBC in California and Arizona.
I've appeared at venues in Upstate New York, Boston, Arizona & Nevada as well.
My acting credits: I was the lead in a silent short shot in Barcelona, I spent a summer as an intern/apprentice with Judith Malina and Julian Beck's Living Theatre,
I was in an film by artist Zubin Levy and I made brief appearance with Nicholas Cage in "Leaving Las Vegas"
