Saxophone, Clarinet, Composer, Music Therapist, Sound Practitioner...
Jacqueline is an accomplished performer and composer specializing in Saxophone and Clarinet..... Since graduating in Popular Music and Recording in 1996 her career as a musician has taken a variety of routes involving performance, session work for various signed artists, composition, and working in London based recording studios. In recent years she has also been exploring the therapeutic use of sound using instruments including himalayan bowls, sruti box, voice, gamelan and gong. She is also a state registered Music Therapist working with children with autism, in nursing homes for the elderly with dementia and adults with brain injuries etc.
Last year she founded and wrote material for AkashaRose; www.myspace.com/akasharoses and currently performs with several other artists and groups including Tambura (7 piece improvisatory band combining jazz and Indian classical music including instruments such as the harp, violin, sruti box, double bass, udu, hang etc); www.myspace.com/tamburamusic and Mieszanka, a gypsy jazz, klezmer band; www.myspace.com/mieszanka and The Bohemianauts; www.myspace.com/thebohemianauts.
UK festivals performed at include: Glastonbury, Big Green Gathering, Small World, Sunrise Celebration. She has played alot overseas including Eastern, Southern and Mid Europe, Australia and India. For example; touring the east coast of Australia with Azadoota, a world beat band with Assyrian vocals including a performance at the splendid Woodford Folk Festival, Queensland as well as playing with the Sydney University Balinese Gamelan Orchestra. She has also taken part in numerous street performing festivals around Europe in Switzerland, Poland, Eastern Europe with a variety of groups (Fantasmagoria, Mindspinners, Mieszanka) including the Linz Pflasterspektakel, one of the largest street performing festivals in the world. In 2006 Jacqui took part in a voluntary Music Therapy project in Mostar, Bosnia.
Jacqui also writes, records and performs her own music. Albums include: Full Circle, The Dancer, written in collaboration with a contemporary dance company and Inner Wall. She has recently written a series of pieces combining sounds and music for therapeutic purposes using instruments such as the harmonium, accordion, singing bowls, crystal bowls, gong, saxophone, clarinet and voice. She is in the process of writing a new album to be completed this year.
Jacqui along with two other sound practitioners runs a monthly Soundbath on the 1st Wednesday of each month at South East Star Centre, White Eagle Lodge, 15 Park Crescent Place, Brighton, BN2 3HF. 7pm - 8.45pm by donation. To be put on the mailing list please email [email protected]
