About the Songs
Sense of Wonder. This is my attempt at saying that the idea of ’spirituality’ is not only the preserve of religion. In fact, I think what I’m actually saying is that religion is people’s greatest barrier to real spirituality.
Dangerous Times. This wee ditty is about people who live life on the edge to retain a sense of distance from others. Thanks to Geoff(keyboards/backing vocals) and Chris(bass)
Memory Man. The Memory Man stays on the move, he is a performer, but never forgets who he is to everyone he meets. That way he stays loved.
Mr Benn. Let’s face it, we all judge others by what they ’do’. But those who are defined by what they ’do’ to earn money are rarely what they seem! Thanks to Calum (aka Big Bad Bad® ) for recording and twiddling in a record 27 minutes and 8 seconds!!
Tommy, Carol, Susan (and Susan’s boss). Tommy bought a shop down on Glasgow Cross because his relationship with Carol had, to quote the Bareneaked Ladies, ’no more surprises up its sleeve’. Relationships start and finish for a great many reasons and there are always winners and losers.C’est la vie, mes amis.
Traveller’s Song. An old one. People travel for a great many reasons - I know I do. Those short journeys are less about discovery than photo opportunities filled with intrigue and inquisitiveness. It’s the long journeys which change us. The longer the journey, the greater the change. _____________________ "Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we." -- George W. Bush, August 5, 2004

Influences: Or: Music and People, a Rant!
Mostly good people. I love energy and honesty in people and music. Some pop is honest, and I like that. Some metal is honest, and I like that. Some folk is honest, and I like that. Some people are honest, and I like them. When honest people make honest music, I generally make a purchase.
Here's what I'll admit to listening to... Green Day, Ballboy, Entombed, Uriah Heep, Clawfinger, Early David Bowie, Nanci Griffith, Rory Gallagher, Jon Anderson, Amorphis, Black Sabbath, Kansas, Manfred Mann, Tchaikovsky, any interpretation of the Songs of Burns (I draw the line at Jean Redpath or Kenneth McKellar though!), Cheb Memi, Barenaked Ladies, Arthur Lee & Love Del Amitri, Bill Hicks, The Moody Blues, Bob Dylan, Free, RATM, Suzanne Vega, The Small Faces, The Hollies, Humble Pie, Budgie, Pink Floyd, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Corrosion of Conformity, Eels, Faith No More, Gillian Welch, Hawkwind, Foo Fighters, Lindisfarne, Machine Head, Kings of Leon, Metallica, Rammstein, Nick Drake, Opeth, Simon and Garfunkel, Pain, Joni Mitchell, Children of Boddum, Rush, White Zombie, Leadbelly, The Screaming Trees , Squeeze, Slade, The Proclaimers, Status Quo, Porcupine Tree, Ozric Tentacles, Pantera, Nils Lofgren, Sepultura, Matt Munro, Nailbomb, Mahogany Rush, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Joni Mitchell, Rod Stewart(early stuff), Runrig, Leonard Cohen, REM, Manic Street Preachers, Klaus Lage, Janis Ian, Frank Zappa, Focus, Uriah Heep, Early(pre-Phil Collins on vocals) Genesis, Plexiq, Queen, Pitchshifter, Scorpians, Prong, Wilco, Deep Purple, System of a Down, The Sweet, Amorphis, Francois Hardy, Be Bop Deluxe, Supertramp, Talk Talk, Gallagher and Lyle, Sutherland Brothers and Quiver, Paradise Lost, Peter Gabriel, Robert Johnson, Slade, Thin Lizzy, Tool, Alex Harvey, Horslips, The White Stripes, ELO, Paradise Lost, Kings of Leon, John Prine, Groundhogs, G'n'R, John Martyn, Elton John (Goodbye Yellow Brick Road only...ever), Bryan Ferry, The Kinks, Blues Traveler(sic), Jethro Tull, and CCR amongst others!

Music - that great leveller!

When push comes to shove, I don’t really care what the music is. If it takes me away to a place I like, then I’ll play that music again and again... and maybe a few more times after that! ...

Free-range cycling rant

We're quite fortunate round here to have some brilliant, virtually traffic-free, countryside to wander around. And we do wander, but for a bit more exertion I like to cycle. You can't go more than a f...

A poem
