Artistic Sign Language Interpreter

About Me

I am a nationally certified American Sign Language interpreter. I specialize in, and have a deep passion for, artistic interpreting. Holly Near, Dilana, Roger Waters/Pink Floyd, Tom Petty, and Sheryl Crow are just a few of the performers for whom I've interpreted. Favorite plays I've interpreted include "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat", "Aida", "Jesus Christ Superstar" and a shadow signed production of "Falsettoland". I also interpreted for Bill & Hillary Clinton during this current campaign and several times for John Kerry when he was running. Prior to becoming an interpreter I spent 15 years working as a Chicago-based actress. I worked at Steppenwolf Theatre, having the privilege of working with Frank Galati, Gary Sinise, John C. Reilly and Lois Smith. I performed at The Theatre Building, Chameleon and Milwaukee's Next Act Theatre to name a few, as well as making industrial films and doing some television work. I'm a huge animal lover, currently owned by 3 dogs and 2 cats. I would give anything to pet a big cat.

My Interests

Music, Books, Theatre, Dance, Dogs, Interpreting, Deafness and Linguistics.

I'd like to meet:

I'm passionate about interpreting any music, and there are many performers with whom I'd like to work. I used to say that Dilana and Pink were the artists I'd most love to interpret for. I've been fortunate enough to get to work with Dilana, so now I'll just say...Pink.

Music:

Holly Near, Dilana, Pink, Cris Williamson, Ferron, Melissa Etheridge, Barb Cheron. Any performer or show I've interpreted becomes special, too.

Movies:

Interpreting Dilana's song "Somebody Else"-Houston href="http://www.msplinks.com/MDFodHRwOi8vdmlkcy5teXNwYWNlLm NvbS9pbmRleC5jZm0/ZnVzZWFjdGlvbj12aWRzLmluZGl2aWR1YWwmdmlkZW 9pZD0yMDM3NzIxNDYz"Slipping Through My Fingers-Mamma Mia!

Television:

All My Children (since 1981), House, Heroes, Lost, Dr. Phil, and the reality shows that require talent.

Books:

"The Grapes of Wrath" and "A Wrinkle in Time". "The Clan of the Cave Bear" series by Jean Auel, the Harry Potter series, Jodi Picoult and Richard Bach.

Heroes:

Barb Cheron, because she's the wisest woman I know, and I'm better for having her in my life. I generally don't like the word "heroes" but there are some people that I particularly admire or respect for various reasons. Holly Near because her music and world view are a constant source of inspiration. Lisa Vogel because her vision created and sustains the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival.
