Founded in 1952, the San Jose Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is part of the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization. With over 1800 members, the San Jose Branch NAACP is the premier organization advocating for civil rights in Silicon Valley.
We assist in the utilization of the legal system to ensure equal rights for all people, strengthen economic, cultural, social, and family basis of African American and other minority communities. Additionally we articulate grievances of African Americans and other minorities to protect individual rights and advocate and monitor government programs and policies as well as the perfomance of the nonprofit private sector.
The SJ/SV NAACP investigates equality and fairness in such areas as:

b) Employment
c) Voting
d) Political Representation
e) Education
f) Administration of Justice
g) Health
h) Economic Development

Our 56th Annual Freedom & Friendship Awards Gala will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Parkside Hall in San Jose.
Our special guest for this year's keynote conversation is Judge Greg Mathis . Judge Mathis is a national figure known for his advocacy campaigns for equal justice. His inspirational life story of a street youth who rose from jail to Judge has provided hope to millions who watch him on the award-winning television court show Judge Mathis each day. In addition, his weekly newspaper column brings social and political insight to readers throughout the country.
