West Cornwall based acoustic DjazzCeltica are Pam & Noel Betowski, playing a mix of gypsy jazz (the style developed by Django Reinhardt & Stephane Grappelli in the 1930s) and some Celtic & Irish material.
In the 70s Pam joined folk band “£42 Cheque†where she met Noel Betowski who was the bouzouki player. Pam & Noel later formed Ex-Tradition with Sean Madigan & John Coakley (ex. Boys of the Lough) & then worked as a duo. They moved to Cornwall in 1987 where they continued to work in various bands and as a duo. Much of their composed music has been inspired by the sea & the Cornish landscape.Noel bought his first bouzouki back in 1969 at the age of 16 after hearing “Sweeneys Men†playing in Dublin. Ten years later he bought a Stefan Sobell bouzouki, which he still uses. Noel is also known as a painter.
