After eight years together as a band, almost a thousand gigs in Europe and the US, two albums, an EP and seven videos,
Span has split up.
This has nothing to do with the four guys growing up and being sensible about things. The band started pulling in different directions musically, and before they dilluted what Span had become, they chose to move on. Compromise is the opposite of rock, so it was all for the best.Fred, Joff and Kim has formed a new band called Dog Almighty . They have joined forces with Sindri who used to be in a band called Farout Fishing . The result is a creative whirlwind that you owe yourself to check out.
2004 turned out to be a few notches busier than Span could have imagined. After releasing and touring the album Mass Distraction early spring, Jarle Bernhoft, Joff Nilsen, Kim Nordbaek and Fred Wallumrod can look back at album sales gone gold, over 100 gigs in stuffed venues, and a new album packed, shining and ready to go. vs. Time was self-produced, with the exception of two tracks done by Gil Norton.
In the spring of 2005 Span released the EP, Cut Like Diamonds. This was followed by the album Vs. Time two months later. During the spring and the summer of 2005 they toured this album, and in August 2005 came the final decision to split up.
They had a sold-out farewell gig in Rockefeller Music Hall, Oslo, in October 2005. This was an emotional, hard-hitting, two and a half hour rock tribute to the band and the fans. This was all caught on tape, and a dvd release is expected in the spring of 2007. The band has edited the video and mixed the audio themselves to make it as close to the actual experience as possible.
They have promised us all that it will be available all over the world, so even where the albums are unobtainable, this testament will be. Thanks to old and new fans. You are the ones that made all this possible.
