Influences: "Doris doesn' really know, that she is deadly, because she loves all people. she attended, one could say, a humanistic grammar school where she - of course - had music lessons. she likes music, as she likes everything." Monika Reich 2/4/1987
Deadly Doris - that is her aesthetical strategy - is alway where you don't expect her." Dietrich Kuhlbrodt
"These three heads from Berlin are by far the most intelligent of the "Geniale Dilletanten". The "Geniale Dilletanten" -movement of berlin scorn heroism. Die Tödliche Doris tackles it humorously, sarcastically, sardonically and with dionysian pleasure. Their texts are precise and in every detail highly polished. Die Tödliche Doris knows that heroism which isd blindly re-defined by new fashions, trends and false hopes can not escape with a new ego, new boots and leadership. They transfer themselves to Dada mockery underlayed with unobtrusive random sound." Wolfgang Hagen, konkret, Nov. 1981
"The strength of this group comes from their irritating non-identity. Who is doris? The provocative self-mummification of this genial dilettantes has until now, survived the doris-research." Georg Bertsch, Wolkenkratzer 1985/6.
"The author Ingeborg Bachmann who died of sadness, once said, from thirty onwards one should know why one laughs. Die Tödliche Doris let us know." Hannelore Ahorn, Nordseezeitung 3/3/1990
"Founded in West Berlin by artist Wolfgang Müller, Die Tödliche Doris (The Deadly Doris) were one of the most influential creators of conceptual, avant-garde music and perfprmance art in the 1980s. Their innovative sound juxtaposed anarchic new wave and punk with experimental cabaret noises, while the group's projects centred on Doris, a kind of super hausfrau philosopher, whose unidentified and continually evolving character makes her deadly and unpredictable." £250 order from Rebecca Shatwell: [email protected] is sometimes painful. In punk fashion the elements of fashion associated with pain or lust are no longer hidden but are obvious parts of the design, such as bondage belts and collars. Doris remembered that a brace for the teeth brought both pain and was absolutely unfashionable. So they created a brace with jewels as decoration; it’s quite painful to wear and looks very fashionable.
