Captain Magenta
Formed in 2005, Captain Magenta began their life as a band searching for a name, and by the time that the core of the material which forms their debut EP had been recorded, they were no closer to achieving their goal. Having played one gig without a name, borrowing from its acoustic predecessor (RedBlack), Captain Magenta eventually (by a stroke of good luck) agreed on CM, and finally had focus.
The bulk of the EP was recorded in Innis’ Attic/’Home Studio’ with finishing touches added in the Studios at Edinburgh University. Having played a handful of gigs on the back of the four song strong EP, CM suffered a large blow losing Bassist (and general sound techie god) Neale Dutton and Drummer (and all round party starter) Robbie Crook in quick succession.
Luckily their remaining members (Singer Rixon and Guitarist Walker) continued the project, hooking up soon after Dutton's departure with current Bassist Scott Neilson. On the back of some successful gigs in the summer of 2007, as Robbie's departure became imminent due to a change of univerity, the band sought a replacement. Thanks to some mutual friendships the band stumbled across the hidden gem in Ally Beattie, completing the line up, and releasing a new era of musical creativity from the four.
Following a successful battle of the bands in Edinburgh, CM were given the opportunity to compete in their biggest ever performance, to a full house at King Tuts in Glasgow (the lads' home town). Although they didn't win, all involved would agree that it was one of the best nights of their lives (including the night out after - haha).
A spur of creativity over summer 2007 resulted in 3 new songs, which after being well received at live performances, the band sought to record. Currently the first has been recorded, available on the web (myspace.com/captainmagenta) for free like all their material, whilst the other 2 are forecast for late October. Further new songs are also set to be revealed at live performances over the last quarter of 2008.

"It's not known how much time they deliberated on what to call said EP - imaginatively they settled on Captain Magenta EP - but the important thing is, it's actually rather good."

Captain Magenta's Ex Members
We decided that we should thank Captain Magenta's previous members as they have played such a huge part in developing our sound and making the band the way it is today, so have made the CM Ex Members section.
Robbie played drums for Captain Magenta from its formation in 2005 till Summer 2007, when he had to move cities so could no longer be avaliable. He is responsable for writing and recording all the drum lines on the EP tracks and for some of the hilarious and just plain obscene footage in the video diary of our Rockers gig.
Neale had been playing the bass with Owen and Innis in various bands since around 2000, and was there when Captain Magenta were formed until early 2007 when he had to leave due to lack of time caused by work. He is responsable for all the bass lines and recording on the EP, and also played a big part in the mastering of the EP.
