About Me

MyGen Profile GeneratorI work as a Freelance Community Artist in the South West. I draw on my training & experience in Psychology as well as Art & Design. I like working with other people and being part of big team projects as well as teaching workshops. A big theme in my work is recycling. Alongside workshops in Costume Design, Recycled Art & Textiles, Papier Mache & Felt-making, I undertake a variety of commissioned projects including; sculpture, murals, costume design, fashion styling, puppet-making, décor for events, painting scenery, props, curtains and drapes. I also have my own line of hand-made felt scarves under my label Grace Textile Designs, made to order and for Wendy Syred boutique in Clifton, Bristol. Last summer I co-ordinated art activities and other artists as part of LoveBristol festival & previously organised two of my own exhibitions at IMAX Bristol & Bristol School of Art and had work shown in the North Bristol Art Trail 2005 & ‘Art on the Railings’ 2006 & reviews in The Bristol Evening Post, The Big Issue, Metro & been featured on ITV local news (2006).My last post was a year-long position as 'Creative Projects & Events Co-ordinator' organising large scale family events for The British Empire & Commonwealth Museum. This involves all aspects of Event Management including; design, themes, project management, creating artwork & decor, booking performers/musicians, and for this role, writing educational material & teaching workshops, creating a multi-sensory experience to bring history to life for children. I also did outreach in schools teaching African textiles & run art & craft workshops at the museum one saturday a month.I now work as Arts Curriculum Organiser for the council's Adult Learning Service, organising all the creative and music courses, planning exhibitions and events. I'm currently developing new ideas for performing arts courses and music technology so collaborations and suggestions welcome!
