About Me

I'm Ian ...
I have run a collaborative webzine called rock666.com It is aimed at reviewing bands and gigs in the UK metal / alternative rock genres (for bands that visit these shores in and around the various sub-genres surrounding those styles).
Like anything it's only a function of the people that partake in it, and I hope that can include anyone reading this now. It would not exist without the bands, and it would not exist without Ben, Ross, Greg and everyone else that has helped out with reviews in recent times.
The zine is sort of in limbo at the moment, and really needs contributions from people with organising abilities to give it a kick start again. It's a lot of work, but fun for the right person.
We want to do our bit to help Uk bands, and in 2006 released our 2nd sampler - check it out; I hope you find bands that you like.
I've also have started putting on gigs at trof in Fallowfield once a month. The last Wednesday. The gigs are loosely based around a post-rock theme, and called The View From Over Here . Im keen to collaborate with anyone interested in these styles in promoting the night, wether it be a bit of DJing, helping select bands, handing out fliers, or helping out with soung engineering the night, or bringing along your fanzines, or other related gigs fliers. There's other ideas such as collaborating with other nights to provide DJs, a compilation of the bands playing to sell cheaply and more. As 2007 progresses more people will get involved and further enchance the evening. The more the merrier. Thanks to all at trof we can put on the gigs with no door charge. Which is quite a special thing. Next nights are Jan 31st (Bands), Feb 28th (Bands), March 28th (potential DJ night since it's out of term time - let me know if you want bands though). Last Weds of the month thereafter with some luck.
STOP PRESS : I don't know what is happening with The View From at the moment. Trof is great, but a lot of the bands I would like to put on are probably going to need a different venue. So I'd be interested in putting on a night in another venue co-promoted by someone else. If that person is you get in touch ....

My Interests

Probably old enough to better, but I still like discovering new music. Lifes one big discovery, if you stop find new things are you sure you're alive ? So music is a large part of who I am. Run this website that might one day become better with your help, and have in the past helped out with a manchester promotor as well as the odd band's site.
Kinda like modern art stuff... I've no pretentions to know what the artist was thinking, or really even what it all means...it should be as simple as if you like something, or it makes you think then its good.
After spending the best part of a year travelling in Australia / New Zealand I guess you could say I've got the travel bug. I'd love to find more people to go and see places ... recently had a trip over to Munich and over to Austria skiing....it's a BIG WORLD and I want to see more of it ... sure there could be a big list here....off skiing in France in March :)
I seem to take farrrr to many pictures, some of them are up on my flickr profile.

I'd like to meet:

Any open minded, fun people...and if they love a bit of the old music (rock/alternative/etc) or are a bit quirky then even better ...

I like hearing new music. I like small intimate gigs as much as the Apollo sized gigs. You might able to guess what styles some of the music I like is from the zine name - rock666. But these days Im willing to give a lot of things a try, notably post-rock related and acoustic-folk related acts. p.s. for being nice and reading this, my last name for adding me purposes is 666...you'll need that!)

For a day job I develop internet business sites. Always good to meet fellow people who do that, or even if someone wants to pay to have some work done.

Oh, and for some strange reason I especially seem to get on with people from places begining with 'M'.... so anyone from Manchester, Melbourne, Munich... ? (how do you spell Maschitutis ? anyone there ? what about Madrid, Malmo ???)

Check out:-

There's some ace T's at:-

Oh I'm single btw, if there's an single women out there...I'm always suprised...so why don't you suprise me and msg me ;)

Press play on the video below for a laugh:- ..

Music:

A varied taste, but rather predictably mostly rawk!!!
AIC to Tool, to Wildhearts to ISIS / Neurosis / Red Sparowes to Miocine, Pitchshifter, Baby Chaos, Kerbdog, Pantera, Metallica, Ministry, NiN.
(I'm sure some people must be copying and pasting a big list of bands or somet here?)
Profane, Twin Zero, Capricorns, Purge, Jesu, LAP, Shadow Cops, Immune are all bands you can find out about via my friends list... if you're into the RAWK then you're going to like at least one of them...I'd hope :)
My Last.Fm profile is under the same name, which _might_ give you an idea; though I only listen to music via the computer about 50% of the time.

Movies:

Motor Cycle Diaries, Requiem For A Dream, Leon, Shawshank Redemption, Sideways (scarily i've been told I star in this by more than one person indpendantly!), Matrix, American Beuty, Ringu, other stuff... i like films! My IMDB Vote History

Television:

I like travel and documentary stuff... and some of the music channels like Scuzz, Mtv2, Amp....although a bit cabbage tv like Eastenders or the OC is sometimes called for. Wish I could find the off switch a bit more often! Recently got hooked on Lost (2nd series is definately even better!) and Invasion. It's amazing what you can get on the net these days... I've just started watching Tripods (a tv series from when I was a kid!)...nearly all the way through the first series of House...

Books:

I want to read more. I keep buying them, but failing miserably to read. There's too many distractions, and I've the concentration of a rabbit caught in the glare of a big truck about to be run over these days.

Heroes:

The everyday folk who do stuff. People who manage to bring up kids in this crazy world. The people who care/give a shit and get involved
