Dean exits a Venice Beach rehab at dawn and does the thing he least wants in the world: phone his older brother Neal, a type-A personality concert promoter, to ask for help.
Neal is on his way to Nebraska to promote a rock show. He can’t take his screwed up brother with him to work, but he can’t leave him behind to overdose in some downtown shooting gallery.
The only answer is a road trip, clear across the country. Along the way are a series of rapidly escalating misadventures, jump-started by crossing paths with Phoenix, a beautiful, but complicated girl on the run. The duo becomes a trio and the three face the unraveling road of life together. From bar brawls to motel skinny-dips, from gun wielding Mexican stand-offs to starry night wilderness camp-outs, from Death Valley to Aspen to Nashville to Coney Island, the last thing you’d expect from “Wish You Were Here†is exactly how they got from here to there.
