The Reverse was born from an idea by DJ MYKE (Men in skratch crew), a kind of mind loop, whisked up in his skull while he was gazing at the turntable endlessly turning on itself..Weaned since a child to the sophisticated flavours of the cuisine of his motherland, Umbria, trained to the harmonic perfection of different tastes of one of the most renowned gastronomic tradition, DJ Myke dreamed of obtaining the same richness of sensations, the same complexity of tones which he was used to feed on - creating a musicuisine able to attain the same ecstasy of feelings. In this auditory recipe, the most important is the galenic composition of the two basic ingredients. DJ MYKE begins an elaborate process by experimenting on a body of sounds, cuts and simmers, seasoning and spice infusions, involving in this transformations his own body. We apologize for the extreme graphical images that follow. Changing from a mere playing machine, the turntable starts to fulfil its own independent life. Eager for flesh and blood, it demands nothing short of a complete sacrifice on the DJ..s part: to undergo an acoustic butchering - a hacking and clicking that rips him to shreds. This is to create a chemistry between the acoustic practice of live played music and the universe of loop, sampling, beat and scratch. Like in a dialogue with bass and guitar, the turntable becomes a real music instrument, instrument of sound production not only reproduction. That's the radical meaning of vinyl scratching, the sound of the live performance.At the heart of The REVERSE project there's the live set: a jam session that puts together the DJ art of beatjuggling and scratching, the blues and jazz improvisation style and the rock live energy.
