I was born July 28th, 1866 in London, England. As a child i was kept at home while my brother went to school. I was encouraged to draw and spend time with my pets, such as my first rabbit Benjamin Bouncer and my dog Spot. Both my parents lived on inheritances. They weren't around very often, my brother and I were raised by governesses. I began to keep extensive journals in secret code at the age of 15.
A childhood sketchbook
When i grew up i became housekeeper for my parents. i was not allowed to further my education. At this time, most of my drawings were of animals i brought home from hoildays in Scotland and the lake district. I seriously studied many plants and animals. I was very interested in fungi.
I struggled to find a publisher for my first and best known work, "Peter Rabbit." After this, however, i became very popular and had no trouble. around this time i bacame engaged to Norman Wayne against my parent's wishes. He died before we could marry.
Later in life, i decided to use my parent's money to buy myself a sheep farm on the Lake District. At the age of 47, i married my soliciter, and we lived comfortably.
