The New St. Mark Church of God in Christ is the vision of its visionary Bishop Samuel L. Green. It is from his loins this family was conceived and through much sacrifice and travail has this family been birthed. On a cold winter Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. on January 25, 2004, for the first time in its life The New St. Mark Church of God in Christ opened its doors for ministry. Elder & Mrs. Michael D. Green had been sent by their mentor and pastor to breathe life into this empty building. Their first service hosted seven family members aside from Elder Green and his wife. The vision had begun.Sent with the support of their mother church Elder & Mrs. Green went to work to bring to pass the vision of their father in the gospel. With the help and backing of its mother church, St. Johns Church of God in Christ, The New St. Mark Church was on its way.As time progressed visitors began to wander in as they heard talk of a new ministry in town. Flyers, post cards, and radio commercials filled the area to alert the community that there was something new in downtown Portsmouth. Pretty soon God began to add to the church such as would be saved. The first series of messages came during the first two weeks of the church’s opening entitled “There’s Another Place in God.†In the first two weeks of revival a beautiful family joined along with a single young lady. Soon after God began to increase the family more and more.In the first year the Lord had blessed The New St. Mark to host musicals, plays, revivals, community fellowships and its very own Word and Power television broadcast. The ministry has seen people wander in off the streets drunk and leave saved and sober. They have ministered clothing and food to the naked and the hungry. They have witnessed to their surrounding community. The New St. Mark Church family has endeavored to express the love of Jesus to all who enter in to worship.
