About Me

Born and raised in Be'er-Sheva, in Israel 's South, Asaf began playing and performing as a bass guitarist at the age of 14 with rock bands, folk ensembles, and jazz groups in his city. Asaf later moved North to Tel Aviv, in order to study jazz arrangements and western classical harmony. During his sojourn in Tel Aviv, Asaf began recording and performing in the local scene.------------------------- In 2001, Asaf moved to Amsterdam , where he studied in the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, while simultaneously touring and recording in Europe with various groups including Klezmer band "Or Leisrael" and Balkan/jazz band "Conzilium". He studied under the tutorial of the bass virtuoso Dominique Dipiazza and eventually started performing his first solo project "As If Af Is".-------- In 2005, Asaf was invited to join the renowned Indian guitar player Konarak Reddy in India . He then went on to study south Indian classical music on the fretless bass.------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------- Asaf Rabi's debut album "Falfile" captures his experiences in India , a journey which began in October 2005. During his travels, Asaf had the privilege of playing alongside some of India 's finest musicians - both classical Indian and western oriented - including Rama Mani, Amit Heri, Prasanna, Ravichndra Kulur, Ranjit Barot, and the renowned saxophonist, Charlie Mariano.--------------------------------- The album was written and recorded in Bangalore , and reflects the diverse directions Asaf's music had taken him at this point in his life. The album flawlessly blends an eclectic mix of influences ranging from South Indian music, Eastern European, North and Western African, contemporary Israeli music, jazz and rock. Asaf's groundbreaking compositions and virtuosity with the bass guitar allows all of these flavours to work in flux and harmony with one another.
