WEEKENDWAKEUP.com BAY AREA
The Weekend Wake-Up is proud to present Weathering the Storm: Sacred Cycles of Rebirth, our March offering in the fourth annual series of FREE all-ages events. This event is an acknowledgement of the struggles that each of us is facing in our daily lives.  Out of respect for International Woman's Month, we honor the sacred cycles of life and death, our fallen comrades and loved ones, and the contribution of women in holding together our communities during our greatest trials and tribulations. The women of this event are the facilitators of the dialogue and the masters of the ceremony, through rap, spoken word and as the deejays.   All genders have their own storms to weather and strong men have stepped up in solidarity with our sisters. Â
Â
Weathering the Storm: Sacred Cycles of Rebirth will be held at the Mandela Art Center, right next to West Oakland BART @ 1357 5th Street / Mandela Parkway on Friday, March 7, 2008 from 7 PM until Midnight. There is plenty of free parking and the event is wheelchair accessible.
Â
Featured Artists include Queen Deelah, Chela Simone and Colored Ink. Youth Theatre will be performed by I Go and OnStage / OffStage. Dance Showcase by the Animaniacs. Live art by Vogue, Khufu, and other special guests. DJs Leydis, Black ndaLight, and Agana will be holding down the turntables. The mic will be opened up to the audience at the end of the event.Â
Â
This event is dedicated to the memories of Gary King Jr., K-Doe of the Hip-Hop Congress, Sienna Aviani, a student at Laney College, and all of our family members that have recently passed on.

The Weekend Wake-Up is a monthly series of FREE multi-generational community events that showcase youth talent in hip-hop and other urban art forms, and connect young artists to their conscious professional counterparts in the community. It is facilitated by Bay Area youth and a coalition of their adult allies, support agencies, and community programs. For more information, please visit www.weekendwakeup.com or email [email protected].
