...............REVIEWS: For all it's familiarity make no mistake, this is somewhere new, somewhere new and exciting......Ms McDonald's voice is a place where an Eurythmics Annie Lennox would meet Joni Mitchell for lunch, and would be served coffee by Shania Twain. - Lyndon Johnson, Independent UK Journalist & broadcaster - 1999 ............................................................
.........................an appealing, contemplative singer/songwriter along the lines of Sarah McLachlan and Shawn Colvin (or if you want to go further back, you can note the parallels between McDonald's songs and the reflections of Judy Collins and Joni Mitchell).....AMG Rating = Good -- Alex Henderson, All-Music Guide..........Sounding neither angry nor mousy -- the two main paradigms lately -- BARBARA McDONALD sings in a gutsy, sincere style informed by classic soul, Joni Mitchell, and Rickie Lee Jones. Steve Holtje, Editor CDNOW, New York ..........
.................The trans-Atlantic production (done in both Pennsylvania and England is smooth and slick. - Tom Lounges - Midwest Beat/May 1999......................Production and songwriting Review - "Instead of Saying Goodbye" is a full band production, pop ballad with enough sensibility to be played happily on any easy listening station around the English speaking world. It's heartfelt vocal work and smooth production are of a high standard - not a bad introduction to this reviewer's aural dinner table at all. The instruments create a fitting sound bed on which the sumptuous vocals sit - or more, float above, contained in an airspace all of their own without being mixed offensively of course.......this track is strong. I'd recommend it to anyone who feels like listening to something relaxing, inoffensive and tasteful... - Review written by John Paul Carroll - Soundclick reviewer - New Zealand
Sounds Like: Teen spirit ;-) Couldn't resist LOL. Not trying to sound like anyone and so many people have tried to attach likenesses to Barbara's voice ranging from Rickie Lee Jones to Joni Mitchell, and Carly Simon to Annie Lennox, that one would get totally confused trying. Likewise John has been likened to Elvis Costello, John Lennon, Luka Bloom and others. We suggest they sound like themselves.Barbara's debut album Madmen & Lovers still available for download at iTunes and on CD at CD Baby.com among many other outlets.
