About Me

Boobinga are Didge'n'Bass and play Didge'n'Bass! The Didgeridoo as the oldest wind instrument worldwide is unusually used as drums in combination with the Bass working as a guitar. The Bass proves as an electric sound effect like this and the Didge as a singer.
Boobinga - didgeridoo 'n' electric bass
Both talented soloists Marc Miethe and the E-Bass player Armin Metz as a duo explore new aspects with their instruments and discover unexpected sounds and grooves among Ambient, Funk and Jazz to dance to. Armin Metz and Marc Miethe approve the special emphasis given to Bass and Didgeridoo in this exceptional combination as a contribution to music history instead of playing the instruments only as accompanying instruments.
Since June 1997 Boobinga surprises the audience by its remarkable variety of sounds in such a voluminous manner one could overlook that they are only two musicians performing.
Optional casted with percussionist allrounder David Kuckhermann, Boobinga found its congenial trio partner in 2005 with whom they encourage their audience to dance to. The experienced groove creators of several projects in Jazz, Club and Worldmusic convinced their adherents even as soloists.

One of the true innovators of contemporary Didgeridoo Style!

The media lauds his extraordinary percussive and powerful style. His experience as a bass-player took influence on his unique artistic dimensions on the tunable trombone Didge. In 1994 he teams up for the Berlin Didgeridoo trio Circular Breathing and records two CDs with them.
He performs with his main project Didges Brew and as a CD and tour guest with Moroccan Gnawa'n'Clubbeat project Gnawa Impulse. Armin Metz: electric bass

was born 1974 in Regensburg, Germany. From his early childhood he was attracted by music, listening to 70´s radio program and playing to Funk Soul and Pop on selfmade instruments. After autodidactic experiences he achieved lessons in classical piano from the age of nine. Inspired by electronical/film music he was fascinated with synthesizers in the mid 80´s. Metz picked up the bass with 15, what followed a passion for earthy grooves and unique techniques. His explorations as a bass player and composer led him through the wide field of worldmusic, especially to classical indian music.
Metz moved to Berlin where he studied bass and popular music at the University of Music HfM. He played bass in various worldmusic/pop projects (since 2005 he´s a member of the Talvin Singh Trio) and produced several tracks ranging from D´n´B and electronica (collaborations include Talvin Singh, releases under his pseudonym Gemin) to house and trance (e.g. with Chiva Chandra´s mastermind Daniel Vernunft). Studio projects such as Siggi Stern´s album "Siam Bruder" feature Metz as producer/multi-instrumentalist. Together with german didgeridoo player Marc Miethe he 1997 formed the didge`n`bass-duo Boobinga, in 1999 he co-founded the worldfusion band Ahimsa (India/Germany) which recorded two albums and toured through Europe several times. Sometimes he can be heard performing solo bass concerts.
Metz has worked as a bass player/producer with Talvin Singh, Anandan Sivamani, Louis Banks, Shiva Chandra, Felix Sabal-Lecco, Yogeshwara, Tunji Beier, Tim Deluxe, Hossam Shaker, Anuradha Krishnamurthi, Christina Lux and Sonja Kandels amongst others.

David Kuckhermann: Percussion, Electro-Percussion

He studied world percussion at the Music Academy in Rotterdam and since then is actively involved in different drum cultures (e.g. Latin American, Indian and Middle East percussion). He integrated live looping to his repertoire in 2001 and since then composes for dance performances of the Rotterdam Dance Academy. David is member in Wouter Swets Al Farabi Ensemble and performs as ZwischenRaum with sax player and keyboarder Holger Raddatz. He lives in Berlin since 2003 and he plays ancient music with Ensemble EST on tour. He accompanies Omar Faruk Tekbilek and Cordatum and he works as teacher e.g. at the percussion school "rhythmuswelt" in Münster as well. The electronic Zen Drum provides infinite sound spectrums to him due to his distinctive dexterity.
David's teachers were Ustad Fayaz Khan and Ted de Jong (Indian Tabla), Glen Velez (Frame Drums), Siavach Yazdanifar (Tonbak, Daf), Ramesh Shotham (South Indian Percussion), Nils Fischer (Latinpercussion), Martin Drewer (Brasilian Percussion) and Wouter Swets (Balkan Rhythms).
