Born 10 June 1921 in Corfu,I came to England in 1928 but did not become a British subject until 1947.Of Danish descent,my father,Prince Andrew of Greece,is the grandson of King Christian IX of Denmark and my mother,Princess Alice of Battenberg,was the daughter of Prince Louis of Battenberg.I joined the Royal Navy as a cadet,which heralded the start of my long distinguished naval career,during which time I served on HMS Ramillies,HMS Valiant,HMS Wallace,HMS Whelp,HMS Chequers and HMS Magpie where I was appointed Lieutenant-Commander.I married Princess Elizabeth {later Queen Elizabeth II } in 1947. I accompany the Queen on tours and state visits overseas. I am patron and also president of over 800 organisations and I have a special interest in scientific and technological research and development.I am Prince Philip,Duke of Edinburgh.Earl of Merioneth,Baron Greenwich,Knight of the Garter,Admiral of the Sea Cadet Corps,Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Cadet Force,Air Commodore-in-Chief of the Air Training Corps,Knight of the Thistle,Admiral of the Fleet,Field Marshal and Marshal of the Royal Air Force.
