some reviews...
Gary Williams - Sandman Magazine - page
49 / issue 124 / october 2006 - reviewing Tripping / Messi 2 track demo
Citing influences such as Depeche Mode, Martin Hannet and Tubeway Army, and
listing an abundance of instruments used in the recording that include a number
of synths and drum machines, you would be foolish if you thought that this two
track CD would sound like anything other than 80's synth pop... Opening track
"Tripping" suprisingly has a real modern dance intro, until the vocals ease
in and immediately you are reminded of 80's icons such as Almond, Oakey and
Numan. whilst the songs never break into an uptempo pace, they certainly can't
be classed as chill out music, and for those of you who like a nice slice of
80's pop from time to time, this CD is an enjoyable affair. That said, iddod
do manage to bring a contemporary feel to their music and the song's aren't
long enough to become tedious. This music might not be for everyone, but it
certainly appealed to me.
Eraser, (the Erasure tribute band) had this to say
about a couple of the iddod CD's (Drones 14 tracks & Still Hertz 4 tracks)...
"well we put them on in the van on the way home and listened in silence, spellbound
by the excellent arrangements, playing and vocals, we both loved it... right
up our street musically. Other than the obvious VC (vince clark) and Numan influences,
Stew detected a bit of John Foxx? And the excellent fretless bass on snugs has
to be in honour of Mick Karn? Highlight for me in an album of highlights : Photographic
- superb song, stunning arrangement and enchanting vocals. eraser star rating
: A++ they're ace!"
