Jay Stevens

Hey! I'm just a bass player. Nobody really notices the bass player until he screws up. My name is Jay Stevens, and I am a bass slut.
My main gig for the last bunch of years is with blues guitarist David Gogo. My playing can be heard on his CD's "Vibe" and the briefly Juno Nominated "Live at Deer Lake"
Playing with David has given me the opportunity to share stages with musicians that I've always looked upon for inspiration. We've opened for Buddy Guy, Johnny Winter , George Thorogood, Little Feat, Ike Turner, Long John Baldry, and many others, as well as headlined a lot of festivals.
Before David, I played bass and sang in 2 different country bands and played festivals opening for acts like:Paul Brandt, Patricia Conroy, Farmer's Daughter and so many others I don't remember.
I have also had the pleasure to tour with the legendary "Platters" (smoke gets in your eyes) That's an experience that I may never forget. (I'm not sure if that's good or bad)
Before that, I was playing bass in an instrumental rock group "The Wankin' Family" Heavily influenced by the virtuoso guitarist movement of the 80's, we put out a CD and did a bunch of shows, always trying to push ourselves to play faster and crazier at every show.
Everything I ever needed to know about bass, I learned from copping licks by John Paul Jones, Jerry Scheff, Billy Sheehan and Roscoe Beck.

I also do a bunch of last minute fill in work for almost anyone...give me a cd or some charts (or in most cases nothing at all, not even a freaking song list!) and I'll show up to the gig and know my part.
Unless it's an original project or a very big gig, we don't need no stinkin' rehearsal. Look...I already know how to play Sweet Home Alabama and Roadhouse Blues...we don't need to get together to practice that crap. My name is Jay Stevens and I am a bass slut.
