We 3 wise men are silent members in the community of the Isle of Bute. The Isle of Bute lies in Scotland's Firth of Clyde. 15 miles long by approximately 4 miles wide Bute is less than two hours from the city of Glasgow. We all met aboard the Paddle Steamer Waverley, which is the only traditional vessel cruising the Firth nowadays. All i remember is that one of us needed a light for a cigarette and then the three of us began a conversation about John Farnham and from there the partnerships grew. The classic Victorian seafront facade, promenade and pier in Rothesay were in fact built on land reclaimed from the sea. It is on this promenade that most of our idea's come from. It normally took 20 Marlboro's and a big bottle of 20/20 but the ideas would come be them good or bad. Once an idea becoame concrete we would walk the original shoreline, which is about 200 metres inland in front of Rothesay Castle which once stood guard over the bay. A great source of inspiration. Indeed we have a massive poster of the castle above the mixing desk in our studio (Shed)One of our party is thought to be a direct ancestors of Bute, which has been occupied by man for over 5500 years. An exploration of the island will reveal standing stones, cists and a vitrified fort in the south at Dunagoil Bay. Many archaeological finds are on display at the Bute Museum in Stuart St. One of our trio once worked in this museum but sadly only lasted 3 hours due to singing very loudly, a behaviour that is apparantly not accepted in museums. No wonder they get a Boring tag.Bute is the ancestral home of the Stuart Kings of Scotland. Let it be known we are wise men and not kings and we are definatley not called Stuart. Another member of the wise men has a distant relation that was a gardnerfor one of the Kings. So if you ever visit the isle you might want to visit Rothesay Castle as I am sure many trees are attributed to long lost uncle womble.Below lists a brief history of our beloved castle. The 800 year old ruin of Rothesay castle was built by a hereditary High Steward of Scotland from which the surname Stewart, and later Stuart was derived. The circular design of the castle is unique in Scotland and withstood many onslaughts including an invasion by the Vikings. It was captured by the English during the wars of independence but in 1311 was retaken by Robert the Bruce. Partially destroyed by Oliver Cromwell's troops in 1659 and finally burned and sacked by the Duke of Argyll in 1685 the castle has been substantially restored over the last 120 years.Over the centuries the Isle of Bute has attracted many people who savour the peace & quiet and the friendly reception afforded to incomers. Although we do not like it when cannot get any Bute Ale because of those crazy tourists. Lord Attenborough, the acclaimed film director and actor has a home on the island, but really does not like outsiders or insiders for that fact, all we wanted was some sugar but he told us to " Sling our hook" Not nice when we have video tapes with him on it, give something back to the people! The isle of bute is perfect for our music as we can stay detatched from the crazy thing called the rest of the world. We use the internet for everything now as we are scared to speak to anyone, unless they are from the isle of bute.Thank god we found someone who likes our tunes or we would be nobodies. Please check our pictures for lovely scenes from the Isle of Bute
