Hilary

My name is Hilary Fortnum. I am a 59 year old retired gentleman.

About Me

My full name is Hilary Francis Fortnum. I was born in Wetherby, Yorkshire in 1947. My interests include the books of the Bronte sisters (who had TB), watching badgers (who carry TB), the music of Kenny Rogers (who, to the best of my knowledge, never had TB), and paint-balling.Most importantly I am interested. Which has resulted in me getting involved in matters which, if the truth is told, have nothing to do with me.In short my major project, since taking early retirement, has been in contacting persons about issues which I have taken an interest. If I can make a difference then so be it. If I can't, I'm not bothered. From my desk I have reached the offices of the great and the good of, among others, Harrow Borough Council, Max Clifford Associates, the Economic Development Council of Livingston County in Michigan, Dragon's Den, magic ghost-talker Colin Fry, Chris De Burgh and Susan Scott's Lookalike Agency. All lovely people. So far my efforts, among others, to publicise a national news story about throwing tennis balls at a wasps' nest, start up a company which decorates parties and events with crisps and other potato-based products, and to get on the Trisha show on Five TV with a show called "my wife has lied to me about negligible things, which has caused me minor annoyance" - have all been stonewalled.I plough on.If you would like to follow my adventures please do visit this page regularly and check the blog as I update it with my emails and my thoughts.

STD Clinic

There are some times in your life when you have to act as a shoulder to cry on. For example, I once had to console Terry Corbett when he lost his shoe on an all-day bender in York at about 8pm. E...

My inertia

I realise that I haven't posted a blog on MySpace for many a month. The difficulty is time. My life is very challenging at the moment. Clearing out the guttering which is (again) filled with leaves, a...

Hilary in the future

I am told that, in the future, all meals will be in pill form, we will drive hover cars and all clothes will be made out of silver material.   Also, in the future, everyone will have a Facebook ...

Jeremy Beadle RIP

Today was a sad day for prank-based comedy and primetime ITV as Sir Jeremy Beadle died at the age of 59.   Beadle was in the year below me at school (albeit at a different school, Beadle grew up...

(After) Living on a Prayer

There are two things in this world that scare me, really scare me, scorpions and death. The sum of all of my fears is to combine those two phobias by being killed by a scorpion. That would be really r...

Raining (emails about) Cats and Dogs

We all know that cats are beasts of few words (zero, to be precise) and Dennis "Cat" Avner is no different. In response to my recent email I got no more than this from Dennis.     From: Den...
