About Me
"Ok, so here's some info about me...
I started out my career in Miami, FL doing freestyle music under the
moniker MICHAEL ANTHONY when I was 14 in Miami. I opened for all the
biggies of the time; George Lamond, Joey Kidd, Secret Society, Connie, Cynthia
and The Latin Rascals to name a few. It was during my many performances and appearances
that I met a young Giuseppe D. We instantly hit it off and we decided to cut my first
demos together. By the age of 17, my family and I moved to New Jersey. While I was out and
about in clubland, I ran into Giuseppe, AGAIN, at Danceteria in NYC. Neither of
us knew that the other had moved to New Jersey. Call it FATE! Of course by
then I had gotten into house music, and I made the transition from a freestyle
kid to a bonafide clubkid... think "Party Monster".
After recording some new tracks with Giuseppe in late '93, Strictly Rhythm picked up
"I Could Be This...", and ANDROGENY feat. MICHAEL M. was born. The
single became a massive underground hit in America and a huge hit overseas.
It was featured in several movies like "Lie Down With Dogs" and "Nick and
Jane", and was used in the opening chapter in a book titled "Girlfriend - Men,
Women and Drag". Two more singles followed; "Let's Talk About
Me" and "Genderbender". After that, I did my first solo track called "Move Up", which was
co-produced by Oba' Frank Lord's (of Darkbeat fame) on Waako Records. The track got mixed
reviews since it wasn't my usual record. After that, I researched different
genres of dance music, trying to define my sound. At the age of 22, I moved back
to Miami and got really engulfed in the club scene working for such hotspots as
Liquid and Bar Room. After 9-11, I even relocated to Orlando to work
for Howie Dorough (of The Backstreet Boys) at his club called Tabu'. In the meantime,
I developed great relationships with DJs who would later re-launch my career. After a year, I returned to Miami to release "Shoot Your Shot" and "Let Ya Have It" on Harlequin Records.
"Let Ya Have It" was even reconstructed by a DJ Paulo into a bootleg mix called "Motivation". It was then I noticed
I had touched a chord with a certain club audience. Soon after, I get a phone call from Giuseppe telling me
that I have to go back to NY to record this new sound called "electro".
I had already heard about this "electro" movement and thought it to be a
natural progression. The way I see it, I'm a true dance ARTIST, so why not? So back to the
listener part: Being that I've been in the nightclub scene my whole life I figured, why not
do an album about it? So I decided to embrace my campy-funny-side once again (something I've struggled with
for years), packed my bags, and headed north. In only four days, I wrote and recorded what is to be my album...The album was born and it was originally supposed to be called "Disco Diary - Volume 1",
but since Ms. Madonna's album came out with such a similar name, we decided to change it
to "Dear Diary...". My friends Albert Camara and DJ Mike Mucci helped remix and release
the title track and "The Beat" singles on their Amplitude Recordings label, which is also
featured on this album.I hope you like it, and, not to sound like Little Richard, but I DID IT FIRST! LOL. Oh ands make sure you pick up my new single DOWNTOWN May 31 at beatport.com.
