{Frances Diana Milstead, devoted widow of the late Harris Milstead and Beloved Mother of the late Actor Glenn Milstead aka Divine passed away in her sleep on March 24th 2009 in Ft. Lauderdale, from complications due to a stroke. Frances was 88 years young (just days away from her 89th Birthday) and though she fought cancer for many years, she celebrated life with her family and friends everyday and those who knew her will miss her greatly. She is survived by her loving Niece Martha Friedman, grand niece, Diane Capone, and grand nephew John Capone as well as multiple nieces and nephews. We, her many close friends were honored to have known and loved her. Her legacy will live on forever in our hearts. -Don Campbell}................................................... ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ........................{I am going to keep her myspace up for all of her friends and fans. She read every message and comment that was sent to her and responded, herself, to them all. It always made her SO happy every time I would bring my laptop to her house and let her read them. Even those of you who never met her in person, became such a big part of her extended family. She had hundreds of gay men and women (and straight too for that matter) from all over the world that she adopted as her own whether it was due to being disowned from their own families for being different or just because they related to her son. She was an amazing woman who enjoyed life to the fullest and was SO full of love. She would find something positive in every person that she met, no matter what. A true role model for everyone. She stayed very active in the GLBT community, dancing and going to karaoke or just hanging out with her "Boys" over dinner at her house every week. She was out dancing with us just two days before she went into the hospital. She was one of my very best friends and I am so lucky to have had her in my life. I will miss her greatly. Please continue to write or comment if you like. I know she is somewhere reading her myspace messages proudly with her son Divine. Thank you all for bringing so much love into her life. -Michael O'Quinn}.................................................... ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ .........................I am 89 years old and the mother of the late actor and female impersonator, DIVINE, who starred in many of John Waters movies such as Pink Flamingos, Female Trouble and Hairspray. Cochino Gordo Productions and I have just finished a documentary on...ME called "FRANCES - A Mother Divine". Two years ago I wrote a book called "My Son Divine" telling the life story of my son (Glennie) and his effect on my life. Also, I just finished a new book called "Postcards From Divine" which is actually the first book written by "my son" through postcards from all over the world that he sent us over a nine year span when he was touring and doing films. It includes letters and quotes from many of his close friends and fans. WE ARE STILL LOOKING FOR A PUBLISHER FOR THIS ONE!!! I have had the pleasure of meeting hundreds of his fans and friends over the years. My son's life has definitley had a HUGE impact on my life in a very postive way. I live in Margate Fl, near my niece Martha Friedman who is my closest and dearest family member. We are more like sisters than aunt and niece and she travels all over with me when she can. I love to travel and do book signings all over the world meeting more "DIVINE" fans and "MY" fans everyday. It makes me very happy to know that so many people loved my sons work and how he has had such an influence on their lives.
