In the beginning, there was one. And then there was one more.
Uno Mas sounded good but didn't sound right.
UNO.
Aah.. That's the one. And this is where it all began.
Year 2005 marked the dawn of the musical journey for UNO. Call it mix and match or trial and error but the band like many others, experienced shuffles and switches among its members. Until late November of the same year, Bill Abarquez, Bastiene Dedel, Roger Caballero and Toying Fernandez forged a musical union and became the geniuses behind UNO. Paul Canada further solidified the group with its entry last March 2006.
Despite varied musical influences, bands and genre of interest among band members (Bastiene was from Bajuyo's Shrub, an oldskool reggae band, Bill from Zoso, a classic rock band, Roger performs with his church choir and Paul stars in different groups like Frank!, CDMC, Zubu among others) this did not hinder UNO from coming up with a music which they defined as something more inclined to British Rock, with lyrics which people can relate as they talk about social realities. Bill, the band's songwriter, claims it doesn't dwell much on romantic love although all of their songs reflect the member's real life experiences.
For months now, UNO has been performing regularly in celebrated watering holes in Cebu City namely Vudu, Handuraw Café, Kahayag Café, The Outpost, as well as in several gig exposures during this year's Sinulog Festival and Skim Festivals outside the city.
In adherence to a musician's sublime ambition to come up with beautiful music, UNO is at present concocting an album which contains 10 tracks. Entitled ..A Quiet Entry to the Music Room, UNO's first album is produced by Paul and is being recorded and mixed at Zzubu Recording Studio in Cebu City. In no time, UNO shall come up with its music video to broaden its musical horizons.
And as UNO takes you quietly into the music room, brace yourself, expect a magical journey on your very first step.
