Dan Eldon

What is the difference between exploring and being lost?

About Me

Dan Eldon was a young Reuters photographer, artist, and avid adventurer. He died at the age of 22 at the hands of an angry Somali mob following a UN bombing raid on a house thought to contain warlord General Aideed's followers which instead housed innocent civilians. Dan went to photograph the disaster when the angry villagers turned on the photographers. Dan first went to Somalia at the age of 19, when he witnessed first hand and photographed the horror of the famine while the rest of the world turned a blind eye. His photos ended up on the pages of Time and Newsweek provoking the UN lead by the US to step up and go into Somalia. Dan travelled to more than 40 countries and accumulated more life experience than most do in a life time. Among the fragments of life he left behind, Dan filled 17 vibrant journals with the colors and textures of his trans-continental adventures. These journals have since been distilled into two riveting books that have generated enormous attention around the world: "The Journey Is The Destination"and "Dan Eldon: The Art of Life." Dan proved one person can make a difference.
