About Me

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CHECK OUT THE RECENTLY ADDED VIDEOS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ************************************************************ **MATT 'Guitar' WILSON. is a 37 year old singer/songwriter/six gunn guitar slinging wildman currently living in the Fort Smith, Arkansas region (which he lovingly refers to as "THE BLACK HOLE OF ARKLAHOMA")!!! Having just moved back to Arklahoma after spending five years in the Texas country music scene playing lead guitar all over the great Lone Star State with the likes of Dean Seltzer & The Redneck Mothers, Corey Micheal & Twisted Cowboy, Kenny & The Bluesmen, The Texas Old Town Wranglers, Gone By Dawn, Touch Of Madness, Fantum, The Dave & Matthew Duo, and several other musical acts, opening shows for Pat Green, Dwight Yoakam, Robert Earl Keen, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Radney Foster and many others, Matt brings plenty of experience to the stage every time he sets foot on one! Matt's current solo acoustic performances consist of numerous original songs, plenty of great cover tunes and some very unexpected suprises. Click on 'videos' to watch Matt singing a few of his favorites. Playing lead guitar has always been Matt's forte' but lately he has taken the helm and become a much better and more confident lead singer as well as over all 'band leader'. Since moving back to Arklahoma in the spring of 2005, Matt was featured in a several month stint with regional favorites the 'Truck Stop Poets', a very excellent band led by the extremely talented singer, songwritter, guitarist, blues harp master and kazoo shredding virtuoso Willie Joe Mendenhall. Also a several month stint with the 'Blue Collar Band' from Pocola, Oklahoma, and 'Southern Maid' (featuring the great Bruce Fowler on drums) led to plenty of fun gigs and plenty of new dings and scratches on Matt's Fender Telecaster! Be on the lookout for whatever new musical venture Matt is about to undertake!!!!!!!! As of Dec. 31st, 2006 Matt began playing with the Blue Collar Band once again. Just recently Matt also began performing with his very own three piece blues/rock/country/funk/jam/whatever band, The Matt Wilson Trio. Be on the lookout for the all new MWT and the BCB playing all over the Arklahoma area. Also in the near future, Matt may be turning his acoustic solo shows into a duo, (provided he can find the right guy (or girl) for the job)! Stay tuned!!!!

The good the bad and the ugly, they have all been an influence and an inspiration!!!
Sounds Like: Vocally, Matt sounds EXACTLY like himself!!! His vocals have improved tremdously in the past few years owing mainly to LOTS and LOTS of gigs and a strong desire to improve! Guitar wise, Matt is most often compared to the late great Roy Buchanan, which he considers a HUGE compliment. Although you might not hear much of that influence on these tracks, it is much more apparent when hearing Matt play his Fender Telecaster LIVE!!! "West Texas Rain" was written in early 2002 and this version was recorded in Dec. 2004 on George McLain's 4 track Sony digital machine in about an hour. "Big Daddy" was recorded in the audio control room of the TV station Matt worked at in early 2000. The lead guitar track is just one take. The song actually has lyrics but for various reasons it got turned into an instrumental that day! "Alone, In The Lone Star State Tonight" was written just after moving to Austin in early 2001. This was recorded at Alta Vista Studios in Austin, March 2003 w/ Dave Connolly on background vocals. The new one just added is a song originally recorded by 'The Band' called "It Makes No Difference", this is basically just a live demo recording! Be sure to check out the new live videos of Matt singing STYX's "Suite Madame Blue" and Procal Harum's "A Whiter Shade of Pale". Click "VIDEOS" above to watch them, Enjoy!!!
