About Me

In the words of one of my late great predecessors, "Its been a long time come'n..." I guess u could say this album has been 25 years in the make'n. (And its still not complete!) I say this because this will be my debut album 2 the world. This album, (currently titled "The Error In My Ways" as of now), is based on my life experiences....mistakes mostly. It is a very personal and autobiographical testimony bearing my heart and my soul.4 those wondering, yes, Mitchelle'l is my birth given name. My father was born and raised in a country by the name of Eritrea which borders Ethiopia and the Red Sea. Thats where my name comes from. My father left this third world country in persuit of "The land of opporntunity." It was there where he attended college and sought out a better life 4 himself. It wasn't long thereafter when he met who was 2 be my mother. My mother's ethnicity consists of African-American; French; and Cherokee Indian...Better known as Creole. 2 make a long story short, I was the first born of the 3 children they were 2 eventually have. It is these roots and this background that set my foundation and began sculpting me into the man I was 2 become.... But ofcourse, the streets of Houston would have their say in the matter as well.I've had an ongoing love-affair with music since as far back as I can remember. My mother's vinyl collection provided the soundtrack 2 my childhood. But it wasn't until the "New Jack Swing era" (Early 90's) that I really started 2 think about a career in singing/songwriting. I was heavily inspired by the new school sounds of Guy; New Edition; Tony Toni Tone'; and Jodeci amongst others. Never having the opportunity 2 be vocally trained, it was mimicking the voices and writing styles of these very singers that served as my training. It was these singers who also taught me how 2 factor Hip-Hop into the Soul/Rythym & Blues equation. So I guess u could say that I've been taught by some of the best in the industry. As time went on, the New Jack Swing era was replaced by what was 2 be known as the "Neo-Soul movement." This era ushered in a whole new roster of artists such as D'Angelo and Maxwell. It also brought back the "live sound" that was missing from the New Jack swing era.Taking note of the ever-evolving changes being made in today's music, I struggled 2 find a sound of my own. I even entertained the idea of both rap'n and sing'n 4 a while. This persuit led me 2 bouncing around from producer 2 producer, while at the same time hustle'n on the streets of South West Houston. As every hustler knows, "U hustle long enough, and u wind up get'n shot up, or locked up".... 4 me, it was the latter of the 2. I sat out a brief 6 month stint in a TDCJ State Jail 4 a felony charge. While incarcerated, I performed in the "Chow Hall" in front of a couple hundred inmates every day where I began 2 make a name 4 myself on the unit. Finding encouragement and inspiration from my fellow inmates, I made a vow 2 myself 2 come up with a new game plan and keep my hands clean upon release.Once released back into the free world, I found out how hard it is 2 get a job with a felony on your criminal record. This in turn led me 2 enrolling in a Houston Community College 4 audio engineering. It was ironically through school, the place I had been running from 4 years, that I met my future friend/Manager Chadwicke Earnest. It was also through school that I met the producer of my dreams, Ill Phill. Ill Phill would proove 2 provide just the sound I had been search'n 4. With the 3 of us collectively mix'n elements of the old school with the new, we created a distinct blend of sounds that can only be heard here.I hope u enjoy!!!Mitchelle'l
