The Clangers

About Me

The origins of The Clangers date back to 1994 when Captain Suspect and Plug, who had worked together under the name Solitary Confinement, recruited Rosie as vocalist. They changed the name to Marrakesh and went through various line up changes until settling down with the classic line up of Rosie, Plug and the Captain with new drummer Smeg. They then went on to record 2 excellent demos, "Family Ties" and "Atmospheres". In 2000, Rosie decided to call it a day so the remaining members decided to carry on regardless and play a mixture of punk and rock covers, which they do in their own inimitable style. They had played a few gigs as a trio from 1997 under various names (The 3 Old Farts & Plan 9 Channel 7) when Rosie was unavailable. They still get together with Rosie to play the odd gig when she is availableHaving decided to change the name to The Clangers, the trio played everywhere they could. Bike rallies, parties and even local pubs were not safe from their onslaught with the emphasis being on enjoying themselves, but not taking things too seriously. In 2003 a change was on the cards, in the shape of a second guitarist. The band recruited Mr Rob, and promptly re-christened him Toilet Duck. He is an old school mate of Smeg's and was previously a member of blues/R&B influenced NEW MAGIC BAG, members of whom had included Smeg on drums and Captain on bass. They then had the hard job of changing a blues guitarist into a punk rock power chord lunatic, in which they had partial success (he didn't need converting with regards beer intake - he could do that very well already!). Toilet duck played his first gig with The Clangers at the SAD BASTARD MCC rally that year, having learned the whole set in 3 weeks. The Clangers sound was now complete.2004 was spent playing various bike rallies and pubs around the southwest and Oxford with the highlights being the Ogri Rally and at the N.A.B.D’s bash at Cornbury Park.2005 was their best year to date which included the bands first headline slot at a rally. This was West Oxon MAG's "No Room At The Inn". Other highlights were the Bristol N.A.B.D's Non Urban bash and of course, The Anniversary Tea Party complete with a full Marrakesh set. The end of the year also marked the retirement of Mr Rob, who played his last gig on the 10 December so The Clangers reverted back to a 3 piece band2006 was the best year to date seeing the band play some of their best gigs to date and going from strength to strength.I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace)Get Your Own! | View Slideshow
