Adelaide, South Australia’s Kristian Molnar a.k.a. DJ Odyssey has been a leading figure in Adelaide’s bustling underground dance music scene for over 13 years now and his contribution to the industry is widely recognised & respected.
From the early days of his record shop Ravin Mad Records (1997 – 2000), where he imported, promoted & pushed underground rave music from around the globe & began promoting underground parties to the present day, promoting small underground events, Club nights and festivals, to his involvement as a major contributor to Guidance Magazine & Part owner contributor to GO magazine, Both Underground Adelaide street magazines.
Odyssey’s involvement in the SA Dance industry has helped shape the way it is today.
Odyssey currently holds South Australian Dance Music Awards (SADMA) for Dance party of the year (Enchanted Forest 2, 3 & 4, 1999, 2000, 2002), Promoter of the year (in conjunction with Paradigm (now Turbofunk)& Ultraworld, 2000 & again in 2002), Best event under 800 (System 6, 2000) at the 2003 SA Dance music awards, scooped Dance Party of the year (Enchanted Forest 5), Promoter of the year (Enchanted Forest crew) and Overall DJ of the year.
Early 2004, Kristian was nominated for the following categories at the 2004 South Australian dance music awards: Radio show of the year (Da Clinic), Overall DJ of the year, Hard house DJ of the year, Promoter of the year (Enchanted Crew), Party of the year over 1000 (Enchanted forest 6) & special event under 1000 (System 6). With Odyssey scooping Promoter of the year (Enchanted Crew), Party of the year over 1000 (Enchanted forest 6) and Hard house DJ of the year. Whilst this years dance awards '07 Odyssey Scooped Hard dance DJ of the year and special event under 1000 (System 6 @ Earth)!
The scene in Australia is definitely booming, Hard dance has taken over all the major clubs, Major labels such as ministry of sound, Sony, EMI & Central station are all releasing hard dance CD’s regularly, the crowds are always up for it and all the dance parties are attracting huge crowds with the right attitudes.
Odyssey is a resident every Friday & Saturday night’s at the best club in Adelaide, EARTH, He plays guest spots at most of the touring club nights (Ministry of sound, Perfecto, hard nrg tour etc) as well as regular gig’s at the recovery Rise (Adelaide) and at all Ultraworld, System 6, Stardust & Frantic Adelaide events and even co-hosts a primetime radio show, Da Clinic with Dr Damage every Friday night on Fresh FM.
Odyssey is flown interstate on a regular basis to perform his fast and Furious, upfront, action packed sets and have seen him play interstate at events such as the national Big day out festival that attracts up to 30,000 ppl in Adelaide alone.
System 6 in Brisbane 2-3 times a year, Advent*jah festival @ the Royal showground’s Brisbane, The Tube in Brisbane, Fevah nightclub on the Gold Coast, Hard Kandy,Melbourne 2-3 times a year, Frantic, BPM & Bubble all in Melbourne, Time Nightclub & Rise in Darwin, Frantic, Gas nightclub, Clash of the titans & Global Panic in Sydney, System 6’s & Storm in Perth, Club Habana in Canberra, System 6 & Symbiosis in Cairns and as far afield as regional Mildura, Pt Pirie, Mt Gambier, Pt Augusta, Bumbury & Margaret river. Internationally he has played in Europe three times (Frantic @ Camden Palace, Solid Sunday @ the old mean fiddler, Serotonin @ po na na theatre, Swindon, Cyberdog @ Camden markets, Logic after party @ George IV, Mr Whippy at Club M, UK), Breathe in Cardiff, Wales, Gloriaa in Helsinki, Finland, and most recently Tokyo, Japan twice (Jumpin Disco @ Code, Planet Love @ Velfarre, Code @ club Code & Club Asia) with a New Zealand tour & another overseas tour taking in Japan, UK & Finland all coming up in August / September 06
Odyssey also has 6 tunes released on UK labels. Turbulence by Odyssey, Devious & Submission (System 6 Southside), It’s Rocking by Odyssey & Kevin Energy both on the nu energy collective’s UK Dynamix label, System 6 by Chris C & Odyssey on the UK’s Mohawk label both released in June 02 and has finished another 4 tunes, The only thing that counts (Odyssey, Vinylgroover) & Energy Shield (Odyssey & Vinylgroover) 2 hard house tunes for Nile records, a remix for Australia’s own Nil & Tracy (Tokyo 2051) on Bang on records (Australia), a hard trance tune with Daniel Ro (UK) called Levitation (recently remixed by Australia’s own Sasha V, Fevah recs) for an upcoming Peroxide records based in the UK and most recently, Prospect massive on Sketcha trax (UK) with many more to follow.
Forming a strong & loyal following in his home town, playing every major event and club night over the last few years, Kristian Molnar formally RMR & Terminal velocity productions and recently System 6 productions, Enchanted Crew & Frantic Adelaide, Odyssey's production companies have been responsible and co-promoted some of the biggest parties in SA’s dance history, Parties such as Enchanted forest 1 - 5, Winter Enchanted, Strawberry field's 1,2 & 3, Once upon a time 1,2, First contact, 21st century 1 & 2, They came from mars 1 & 2, Atomic energy 1-3, Insanity 1 & 2, The Atomic energy’s 1-4, the Adrenalin series, over 15 System 6’s, Frantic Adelaide, Adelaide UTOPIA, Twice as nice 03, Stardust, Freeformation, Tidy tour and the occasional Ultraworld to name but a few with too many small and larger scale clubs at the majority of the venue’s in SA to mention.
