Barb and Tom Webber

About Me

Tom and Barb have been performing in Milwaukee, WI and the Midwest area since the late 1980s. Their music and style, includes a lively mix of traditional and contemporary folk, country, blues, classic rock, gospel, and rockabilly. They have released three albums, Traveler's Lullaby (2000), Indigo Sky (2002), and "Only Way Home" (recorded in Nashville 2007) all of which were recorded in collaboration with Tom's long-time music friend from Pittsburgh, PA, Gregg Lindsey. Their most recent album received 4 out of 5 stars in its review by All Music Guide, and their sophomore effort also had an award-winning song, "Profit Line." The album Indigo Sky also won them a WAMI (Wisconsin Area Music Industry) award for "Best Folk Artist" in 2003.Tom and Barb also has had a band since 2002 called "Fair Webber." It consists of Barb Webber (songwriter and vocals), Tom Webber (guitar and vocals), Lon Couillard (percussion), and Andy Waldoch (electric and upright bass, keyboard). The following review sums up the reaction of those who have hired our act over the years: "Whether as a duo or with their band Fair Webber, Barb and Tom have graced our indoor and outdoor musical areas with soaring vocal melodies and accomplished instrumental talent that always leaves our audiences enthusiastically wanting more. Barb and Tom use their combined talents to create an evening that showcases their original pieces along with a variety of musical classics that, while easily recognizable, take on a new life with the Webbers performing them. They are talent personified!"--- Norm and Eve Bruce, Owners of Martha Merrill BooksIf you would be interested in hiring either Barb and Tom as a duo, or our band "Fair Webber" for your venue (large or small), please leave us a message through myspace. My Interests

Music:

Band Website: fairwebberfolkmusic.com
Band Members: Barb Webber (songwriter and vocals) and Tom Webber (rhythm guitar and vocals). When playing with their band "Fair Webber," they are joined by Andy Waldoch (electric and upright bass, & keyboards) and Lon Coulliard (percussion). Barb and Tom also collaborate on recording their albums with Gregg Lindsay (lead guitar, vocals and harmonica). In fact, we went to Nashvile in June 2007 to record our third CD!
Influences: Barb and Tom's music and performances have been favorably compared to Dave Carter and Tracy Grammar, Buddy and Julie Miller, Nanci Griffith, Bill Staines, Robin & Linda Williams, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Johnny Cash, the Everly Brothers, Kathy Mattea, and The Mamas and the Papas. In addition to these, Tom and Barb also count as influences a wide range of artists, including: Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Hank Williams, Mississippi John Hurt, Taj Mahal, Bruce Cockburn, John Prine, Doc Watson, Guy Clark, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, The Band, Van Morrison, John Stewart, Pierce Pettis, JohnSmith, Willy Nelson, Janis Joplin, early Neil Diamond, Neil Young, the Beatles, Mason Proffit, Roseanne Cash, The Carter Family, Arlo Guthrie, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGe, Bob Wills and the Playboys, Otis Redding, Cat Stevens, Rogers and Hammerstein, Blind Willie Johnson, Sandy Denny, Sting, Roger Miller, The Dixie Chicks, Kris Kristofferson, Gilian Welch, Judy Collins, Peter Paul and Mary, Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, Simon and Garfunkle, Kate Rusby, the Chieftans, Tom Russell, Crosby Stills and Nash, Steve Goodman, Steve Earle, Kevin Welch, Dave Alvin, Lead Belly, Mahalia Jackson, Ricky Skaggs, Emmy Lou Harris, Normon Blake, Jerry Garcia, Old and in the Way, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Jimmie Rodgers, David Allen Coe, Hank Thompson, Buck Owens, Keb' Mo', Ray Charles, the Eagles, Poco, Pure Prarie League, Linda Ronstadt, The Byrds, Dolly Parton, Riders in the Sky, Lyle Lovett, Michael Murphy, Al Green, Janis Joplin, B B King, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, John Mayall, Fleetwood Mac, Canned Heat, Johnny Winter, Louis Armstrong, Stephen Foster, the Moody Blues, and early Elvis Presly....to name a few!
Sounds Like: Together Tom and Barb vocally sound like a cross between duos The Everly Brothers and Dave Carter and Tracy Grammar. Barb probably sounds most like Kathy Mattea while Tom sounds like a cross between John Prine and a bluesy Johnny Cash.
