Sounds Like: Situation Taboo was a techno-industrial rock band hailing from San Antonio, Texas. Situation Taboo was a founding member of Flat Earth Artisits, a collection of Texas Christian musicians and artists that included Shot Heard Round the Bloc, Chris Taylor and Windows, and Sixpence None the Richer.Situation Taboo combined techno, three chord punk, and hip-hop grooves to form catchy electro-pop songs. Phil Lovelady originally formed the band in 1989. Situation Taboo‘s final lineup was Phil w/ Garry Franklin, Mike Hassock, and Curtis Saunier.Situation Taboo released four independent albums; 1990's debut "Crucified" was followed by "All Out" in '92. "All Out"" was produced by Dan Yeaney who worked with D.R.I. on their "Dealing With It" album. In 1994, Situation Taboo released "Protorong." This EP was produced by Gary and Dwayne Dassing of Mentallo & the Fixer , who have done remixes for Zoth Ommog artists such as Leatherstrip as well as producing one of Zoth Ommog's compilations.Situation Taboo released two albums for Flying Tart Records; “Protodemo,” a rerelease of "Protorong," and “Digitalis“. Situation Taboo‘s last release "Digitalis" was produced by Dwayne Dassing and techno wizards VIRUS.Situation Taboo's sound was influenced by and compared to the hybrids of Love and Rockets, Joy Division/New Order, Meat Beat Manifesto, and Pop Will Eat Itself.Situation Taboo packed a high quality, energetic show. In their home state of Texas they graced the stages of Austin's Fat Tuesday's, Babe's on 6th, and the Back Room along with Wacky's Kantina, Doza's, Taco Land, Rock Island, and the Showcase in San Antonio.Situation Taboo also played such events as Cornerstone Festival and the GMAs.Situation Taboo's list of supporting honors ranged from national acts Concrete Blonde, Charlie Sexton, Mortal, VIRUS, Morella's Forest, and MxPx to local legends Auschwitz 46, MC Truth (NSL), Thirteen, and Violence and Hate.Situation Taboo received regular airplay on San Antonio's 99.5 KISS, San Marcos' KTSW (where they were requested more often than Live) and CKDU in Halifax, Nova Scotia.Situation Taboo enjoyed amazing design by Paul Soupiset of Toolbox Studios and the clothing sponsorship of european designers Future Shooter Cyber Threads.Situation Taboo‘s deal with Flying Tart Records proved terminal. After the indie’s sale to entertainment conglomerate, Platinum Entertainment, Situation Taboo disbanded in 1997.Discography:
