About Me

Get Your Own! | View Slideshow
The VIP Lounge was founded in 2001 by Dare Mason, resident engineer and producer. Since then all sorts of projects have been recorded there from poetry and children's songs through to folk, indie and metal. The studio is best known for producing bands though. These include Thirteen Senses, My Elvis Blackout, I Say Marvin and Dare's own projects Noctorum and FOLD .
Dare used to be a house engineer at the Townhouse Studios in London where he worked with Paul McCartney, Prince and The Blow Monkeys amongst many others. As a freelance producer, he has produced tracks for Placebo, The Church, AC Acoustics and Cinerama.
The VIP Lounge is closely tied to the vibrant music scene in Cornwall and the South West of England and has links to local radio, agents, managers, music websites, educational initiatives etc.
This site has been set up to promote local acts that have recorded here as well as the studio itself. If you would like more information about the VIP Lounge (rates, equipment etc) please go to our main website.
For anyone who's looking to make a video, we recommend Cornwall Television which is run by Graham Brown who has had 30 years of experience working in TV as a Director of Production including the groundbreaking music show of the 80's, "The Tube". He's also directed many music videos. Graham will deliver a high quality DVD of your band's performance for a very reasonable price.
The Best of the VIP Lounge Vol 1 was a great success leading directly to three of the featured artists being offered deals. Now Vol 2 has been released and, like its predecessor, is packed with 15 brilliant tracks by the cream of new Cornish talent. The CD costs just £6 and is easy to order - just press the PAYPAL button below. You don't need a PAYPAL account either - you can use a debit or credit card. The first 50 purchasers will receive a free copy of Vol 1 so don't delay!

Band Members: This beauty is the latest arrival at the VIP Lounge so we’ve just got to tell you about it.

What you are looking at is the Orange all tube Class A “Tiny Terror” mini head sitting on the Orange Heritage Classic cabinet.
The amp produces 7 or 15 watts of Class A power and is modelled as a lower wattage version of the Orange Classic boutique amp of the 1960’s. Famous for its chime and ringing clean tone through to shredding, gut churning power, it’s all about great tone and detail. The big brother to this amp (with exactly the same valve set up) can be heard at the Led Zep reunion show at the O2 Arena.
The cabinet is designed to the exact spec of the original 1960’s model. Each 12 inch Celestion Vintage 30 Heritage speaker has been tone tested to sound the same as the original. The cabinet itself contains no MDF, is made from hard wood and gives a great bass response. This cab has been the no 1 choice for Jimmy Page from when Led Zep played the Albert Hall in the 60’s till the present day.

Sounds Like: The best you've ever heard yourself! The four tracks on this site were recorded at the Lounge and will be regularly rotated.

Recently the studio has expanded to incorporate the In Deep music archive. This is a separate room housing an estimated 25,000 records and CD's as well as hundreds of music magazines and music reference books. There's also board games, instruments and comfortable furniture to lounge on. So while the guitarist is trying to get that solo right, the rest of you can relax and listen to that album you've always wanted to hear or check out a review of your favourite album from the 90's. Or write a song. Or have a game of chess. It's the perfect place to chill out in between recording.
