Annabella Lwin is lead singer of Bow Wow Wow and a Solo Artist in her own right. she sings, writes and performs her own material aswel as collaborating with other Artists & Musicians.
She was born to a Burmese father and an English mother in Rangoon, Burma. In the 80's at age thirteen, she successfully auditioned as lead singer for the newly formed group by Ex- Sex Pistols manager, Malcolm Mclaren. The band became known as Bow Wow Wow. The group's biggest hits were "Go Wild in the Country" and "I Want Candy". Lwin created some controversy by posing nude (age of fifteen) for album cover, ' See Jungle! See Jungle! Go Join Your Gang, Yeah! City All Over Go Ape Crazy', it was the group's first full-length album.
In 1983 still signed to Major label RCA, the boys in the band ousted Lwin, deciding to form another band. thus embarking on her solo career, 'Don't dance with Strangers' & 'Fever' was released in 1986. After a brief period with the label, she collaborated with other musicians and in 1990 formed a new band 'Naked Experience' which was signed to U.K. label Sonys2. Annabella Collaborated with songwriters such as Billy Steinberg (Madonna, Divinyls) and Ellen Shipley (Belinda Carlisle), releasing 1 single 'Car Sex'. Unfortunetly during the recording of this album, the bassist from the band she had formed, decided to Cause trouble for her and Sony s2, seeing an opportunity to cash in on Annabella's name and fame around the same time as George Michael's dispute with the label. She managed to finish the album with the help of producer Steve Lironi ('Hansen') James Young & Ivor Novello award winner, Guy Chambers (World Party, Robbie Williams). After 1 single release in 1996, the label decided to Concentrate on their more established acts at that time, (Jamiroquai & Desiree) , leaving Annabella & several other artists (Sunscream, Velvet Jungle etc) to start all over again.....She agreed to do a tour with former Bow Wow Wow bassist Leigh Gorman, recapturing the sound of Bowwowwow from 1983 for a tour in the U.S in 1997. Appearances during the reunion & shows after this time included, Eshan Kadaroo, 'Beat Kitchen', and Adrian young from No Doubt, filling in on drums for original Bow Wow Wow member Dave Barbarossa.
Annabella works on original material as a Solo artist, and has been a featured vocalist on numerous transatlantic dance tracks with producers like Jason Nevins, The System, Tony B and the Utah Saints to name a few. Some mystery surrounds her collaboration with the Utah Saints, as both her official site and the Utah Saints official site mention the collaboration, but it appears never to have been released. Her songwriting brought her into partnerships with Guy Chambers, originally of 'World Party', (collaborator of singer Robbie Williams from British boy band 'Take That') and Michael Lattanzi (producer of Mariah Carey, Paula Abdul, Sly & Robbie, Anastasia).
Since 2000 Annabella has performed several concerts for global charities like UNICEF and Save the Children Fund, featured as a vocalist for 'Camp Freddy' members, Dave Navarro and Billy Morrison for a Fundraising Tsunami concert. She wrote and co-produced solo song 'Sacred Ground', found on her official Website, (www.annabellalwin.com) with Musician/Producer Carey Beare. This was donated exclusively to the Hands and Hearts Organization for Tsunami Relief in spring of 2005. She performed onstage at the Greek Theatre in Hollywood and as guest artist of Jane Weidlin (Go,Go's guitarist), for the"Totally 8o's" show at the renowned Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, 2007.She is Currently working on her Solo album and Fundraiser to help her father and all those in Burma suffering from the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis. Annabella is a practicing Buddhist & member of SGI- USA which chants 'Nam Myo Ho Renge Kyo'
