Pastel Ninja

mediocre is the new good

About Me

I almost have a grownup job. I live in a one bedroom apartment with a cat who wants to eat dead mice in my bed. I love books (see books section of profile) and movies (see movie section of profile) and i love to rant. I like slogans, nicknames, and banishing people from the zombie party. If you dont already know about it, youre probably fodder; maybe its better that way.

My Interests

im interested in things. Dr Worm and i have a lot in common actually; maybe i should learn to play the drums too.

I'd like to meet:

Pepe le Prawn, Faramir, Fred and George Weasely, the entire Polyphonic Spree en mass, Ex- PFC Wintergreen, Brandon's Grandma, Regine Butler of the Arcade Fire

Music:

Right now I'm still really into the Arcade Fire. I just discovered the Libertines, and i cant get enough T.Rex. I like the White Stripes, i like the Pixies, i like soundtracks to musicals like Rent and Into the Woods (dont get me started on stephen sondheim, the guy is a genuis). I love Coldplay's Parachutes album, i love the Weezer blue album, even though it doesnt have El Scorcho, which is probly the best weezer song. I love Ella Fitzgerald/ Louis Armstrong trumpet- style jazz, but i hate hate HATE porno-saxophone jazz (dont tell me theres not a difference). i love when new bands cover old songs, even though i know a lot of people think its sacriledge to allow a punk band to cover classics. i love the joey ramone cover of wonderful world. I love Johnny Cash, the Ramones, the Polyphonic Spree, and Ziggy Stardust, ************************************************************ ********IN-MY-CD-PLAYER-RIGHT-NOW*************************** ********The Arcade Fire, The Fratellis, Band of Horses, Seu Jorge, The Libertines, David Bowie, T.Rex,

Movies:

American Movie for over all watchability. its just a brilliant film. Office Space for best comedy, with Nothing to Lose as a close second. i dont have a particular favorite drama, maybe Shawshank Redemption, but it varies regularly. other movies i just like a lot: anything by Baz Luhrman (so far anyway); Sabrina (audrey hepburn version, not subpar version starring harrison ford); Amelie; Delicatessen; the Bill and Teds duology; Muppets From Space; Cold Comfort Farm; The Royal Tennenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, the Dawn of the Dead movies. Who's in your zombie party?

Television:

For the last year, I have been living in an apartment that does not get any TV channels. I suspect that my cat steals cable from the next door neighbors when im not home, but i cant remember the last time i watched a television show chronologically.

Books:

i LOVE books. I even love the new book-opening sound, and the smell of new books.Anyone who actually knows me will notice this list and know i was doing my best not to rant, lecture, or fawn. It is precise and to the point, and nothing like me, although the titles should speak for themselves. ____________________________________________________________ ________________________________________ Some of my favorites are- Voltaire's Candide; Joseph Heller's Catch 22; Richard Adams' Watership Down; the LOTR trilogy (even though its a cliche to say that now, cause everyone says its their favorite. i totally knew this dog before it came to class. ask me sometime for my disertation on Faramir); the Harry Potter series (also a cliche, but im trying to be honest, and come on, they're really well written books); Christopher Moore's Lamb; Gregory Maguire's Wicked (its pretty much his only good book though, the rest sort of aspire to mediocrity and then peak there and die); Terri Windling's incredibly hard to find Bordertown series (Jason bought me the very last one for my birthday. i need a new holy grail); Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next books; ANYTHING by China Mieville (I'd read the ingredients list off a box of Total if it was penned by Mr. Mieville. I 3 him); Gaiman & Pratchett's Good Omens *********************************************THE-BEST-BOOK-I 'VE-EVER-READ-WAS******************************************* ********** The Time Traveler's Wife. It's incredible. It will make all other books pale in comparison. I would even say that it might change you as you read it. In fact, i envy anyone else who hasnt read it because reading that book for the first time is a tremendous gift. It should have been called "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius" but that title is already taken by something NOT genius and actually quite disappointing.********************************************** ****WHAT-I'M-READING-RIGHT-NOW****************************** *************************** The Yiddish Policeman's Union, Plum Lucky, Nightlife, and something currently unpublished that must remain nameless until it officially exists.

Heroes:

Tina Fey, JK Rowling, My Grandma

Sorry

Apparently i disappeared for a while.  Sometimes life is like trying on shoes that are a little too big.  You have to wait a while until you grow into them and they start to fit right. ...
